From huge street murals to gallery walls – watch as Matt Adnate receives the Packing Room Prize 2024 for his striking portrait of musician @dabakerboy.  Titled ‘Rhythms of heritage’, the portrait was created mostly with @adnate’s signature medium of spray paint and represents Baker Boy’s journey as an artist, featuring a captivating reflection of Arnhem Land landscape in his eyes. The work was selected by the Art Gallery’s #PackingRoomPickers Monica, Alexis and Tim – three members of the team who unpack and install the annual entries to the #ArchibaldPrize competition.  See this work on display from 8 June, and book tickets through our link in bio.  #PackingRoomPrize

From a two-storey brief to 13 storeys of Kylie. What a wild few weeks. 💥

Huge thanks to @mushroomcreative for trusting us to bring this ambitious idea to life for @telstra and the @afl , and for being brilliant partners throughout.

To @adnate and his trusty sidekick Jimmy from @nineandaquarter , for delivering something extraordinary under serious pressure. Michael Griffin and the Rigid Scaffold crew, for getting us up there. The @lendlease and VIDA teams, for helping make access possible. @cityofmelbourne , the Clements House team and @duluxaus , for helping pull it all together.

And of course Kylie for coming up, picking up a can, and being every bit as lovely as we’d hoped.

So many people found a way to make this happen. Proud to have played our part.

A 13-storey mural of Kylie Minogue is now live opposite Flinders Street Station – just in time for Melbourne’s biggest weekend of the year 🏉

Of course, like many of the best murals in Melbourne, the giant portrait was done by acclaimed Melbourne street artist Adnate.

It was conceptualised by Australian public art and placemaking studio Juddy Roller, and painted for Telstra and the AFL (alongside Mushroom Creative) in just seven days ahead of Kylie’s headline performance at this Saturday’s AFL Grand Final.

Kylie now looks east across Melbourne towards the MCG.

And because apparently being painted 13 storeys high wasn’t enough, Kylie herself popped by the mural and added a few finishing touches 💅

Find it at 238-242 Flinders Street and look up.

Honoured to share my portrait of BARKAA. @barkaa__ There are voices that entertain and there are voices that refuse to let a nation look away. BARKAA is one of those voices.

Through uncompromising honesty and fierce lyricism, she continues to expose the realities of this country’s past and present, by calling out the ongoing impacts of colonisation, systemic racism and the injustices still faced by First Nations peoples. Her words don’t exist to make people comfortable. They exist to tell the truth.

As an artist, I’ve always believed portraiture has the power to honour those who shape our time. BARKAA is doing exactly that. She is fearless, unapologetic and driven by a deep commitment to her people and to future generations.

To me, she is a true matriarch. Strong enough to stand firm when it’s easier to stay silent, yet one of the kindest and most genuine people you’ll ever meet.

We are incredibly grateful to @posca_aus and @wallshare for making this international mural exchange possible. @adnate absolutely rocked this wall in Konahana, Osaka over the last week. Our feet are now firmly back on the ground in Australia and we are looking forward to kicking off the Melbourne leg of the exchange with Japanese artist @hirotton in the iconic Melbourne suburb of Collingwood. Over the past few weeks, a huge team has moved mountains to bring this project to life. From access, planning and engineering to approvals, to production and painting the 13-storey wall, the turnaround has been nothing short of amazing.

Mushroom Creative were outstanding to work with throughout , ambitious, collaborative and completely committed to creating something special.

And Kylie? Well she was just as cool as we imagined.

Now Melbourne has one of its most beloved icons immortalised and celebrated at monumental scale, created by Adnate for Telstra and the AFL Grand Final.

A pretty special one for us, and one we won’t forget in a hurry.
