We do not design hospitality spaces for opening day. We design them for the years that follow.

After thousands of arrivals and the particular wear that comes from a space that is genuinely inhabited, every material either holds or it does not. We specify knowing that. The photographs taken before anyone has walked through the door are not the measure we design toward.

Behind the materials, beyond the design.

Our AHDS team had the opportunity to visit Porcelanosa in Spain, alongside Kerámikos, exploring the town and factory where their products are made.

From understanding the production process to discovering the materials, finishes, and technology behind each collection, this experience gave us a closer look at the craftsmanship and attention to detail that define their work.

An inspiring visit that allowed us to deepen our knowledge of the materials we bring into our projects and explore new possibilities for future designs.

Our studio does not default to restraint for its own sake. When a space calls for depth, for a wall that holds rather than recedes, for a textile that earns attention rather than avoids it, we follow that call with the same rigor we bring to proportion, materiality, and light.

Color, used with intention, is not a departure from the discipline. It is proof of it. These are some of the spaces from our archive where that decision was made.

A window is a composition the studio did not design but chose to frame.

Every decision in the room, the height of the sill, the depth of the recess, the material beside it, is a decision about what the landscape outside becomes when seen from within. The view does not complete the space. The space completes the view.

In the tropics, humidity, light and vegetation set the terms of the project.

Those terms shape the material choices: local stone, wood selected for how it responds to humidity, textiles of natural fiber. Each one is judged by how it holds under heat and salt air, not by how it reads in a showroom.

The spatial decisions follow the same logic. Rooms open without enclosure, and the line between interior and exterior becomes a threshold rather than a wall.

What results belongs to its latitude. Moved to another climate, the same choices would lose their reason.

The moment art enters a project says a great deal about the role it will play.

Brought in at the styling stage, a piece is asked to fill a wall. Considered at the concept stage, it shapes the decisions around it: the surface behind it, the light it receives, the scale of what sits nearby.

That is the difference between decoration and dialogue. When the relationship works, the art changes how the surrounding materials are read and how long someone chooses to stay in the room.

A design language that works in one climate can fail in another.

The studio works across tropical, coastal and temperate sites, and each one changes the order of priorities. In the tropics, the first question is intensity. On the coast, it is light that will not stay still. In a temperate setting, it is warmth the environment does not provide.

Each is a different problem, and the materials, the palette and the way a space opens follow from how that problem is defined.

A material is never chosen for its appearance alone.

What we see from a distance is only part of its character. In our projects, we consider how a surface will be experienced up close, how its finish responds to light, and how its presence changes the atmosphere of a room.

This selection of details from our projects brings attention to a part of the design process that is often overlooked.

The experience of an interior is shaped by decisions that extend beyond what the eye can see.

A reference is never selected at random.

A certain quality of light, an unexpected color relationship, the feeling of a texture, or an architectural gesture can each hold something worth exploring.

Through observation and curation, these references start to establish a point of view one that gives the project clarity, intention, and its own visual language.

This is how we turn inspiration into direction.
