🌟 Did You Know That Skipping Meals May Be Sabotaging Your Hormones? 🌟 ⠀ Today, I’m touching on why fasting and skipping can be a dangerous fad and unnecessary for your health. Fasting has gained popularity in both plant-based and animal-based diets, but as far as I’m concerned, it’s a pseudoscience. Starving yourself and not fueling your body properly doesn’t make sense. ⠀ Anytime you skip meals or eat inconsistently, your body struggles to keep blood sugar levels within a normal range. Skipping meals causes blood sugar crashes, leading your body to release stress hormones to bring it back up. This constant release of stress hormones can lead to hormone imbalances. Chronic high cortisol, for example, can suppress your parasympathetic nervous system, leading to issues like immune system suppression and digestive problems. If stress hormones stay high for too long, over time this can lead to adrenal fatigue and eventually thyroid issues. ⠀ 🛑 The Solution: Eating frequently throughout the day and including both macronutrients, protein and carbohydrates, helps maintain stable blood sugar levels. This regulation of stress hormones provides the energy needed to stay healthy and balanced. ⠀ Follow @AF.HEALTH for more health tips! by @af.health

🌟 My Top 4 Underrated Protein Sources for Better Hormone Balance 🌟⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Looking to balance your hormones? Here are my top 4 underrated protein sources!⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ 1. Bone Broth / Meat Stock: Bone broth and meat stock are powerful protein sources containing gelatin and collagen, which form the connective tissues in our bodies. These proteins are crucial for healing the gut lining and supporting overall connective tissue health.⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ 2. Grass Fed Red Meat: Grass fed red meat, such as beef, elk, bison, yak, and deer, is a nutrient-dense source of protein. It also contains fat-soluble vitamins and stable saturated fats that support the production of hormone precursors, aiding in hormone balance.⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ 3. Shellfish and Mollusks: Shellfish like oysters and mollusks like mussels are packed with copper, zinc, and other hard-to-find minerals that are essential for hormone synthesis and regulation.⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ 4. Struggling with constant bloating? ⠀ Here's one of the REAL reasons your digestion is off—it all comes down to your metabolism! ⠀ 🌟 Maintaining a healthy metabolism and proper thyroid function can significantly reduce bloating and improve gut health. ⠀ 💡 Did you know? Your metabolism transforms food into energy for life-sustaining activities, and thyroid hormones fuel the cells in your gut lining for smooth muscle contractions, influencing gut motility. ⠀ Proper gut motility means better nutrient absorption, less bloating, reduced constipation, and a healthier microbiome! ⠀ 🌿Want a full assessment of your hormonal health and metabolism? 🌟 The #1 Reason Chronic Stress Leads to Low Energy and a Sluggish Thyroid 🌟⠀ ⠀ The Stress Response: ⠀ ⠀ When the body is under stress, the brain signals the adrenal glands to release cortisol and adrenaline. These hormones prepare the body for immediate action by increasing heart rate, raising blood pressure, and boosting energy supplies. This is a normal and healthy physiological response. However, it can become problematic if it continues chronically over a long period of time.⠀ ⠀ The Body’s Response: ⠀ ⠀ If chronic stress is left unmanaged for a long period of time, the brain signals the thyroid to release less hormone, which slows metabolism to conserve energy and forces the body to rest for healing and stress management.⠀ ⠀ The Survival Mechanism: ⠀ ⠀ This slowdown in metabolism is a survival mechanism used to force the body to slow down so it can rest and recover. This is why people with thyroid issues often experience constant fatigue. Other symptoms include weight gain, digestive issues, and more.⠀ ⠀ Stress Management: ⠀ ⠀ Managing stress is key for having optimal energy and maintaining proper thyroid function. By managing stress, individuals can balance their hormones and speed up their metabolism, leading to more energy, the ability to maintain a healthy weight, experiencing less bloating, and more.⠀ ⠀ Curious how stress is affecting your hormones? What Is Cholesterol? Let’s break it down!⠀ ⠀ Cholesterol! It’s something we hear about all the time, but what exactly is it?⠀ ⠀ 🔹 Cholesterol is a type of lipid, or fat, found in every cell of the body. It’s essential for many important functions, including building cell membranes and producing sex hormones like estrogen and testosterone.⠀ ⠀ 🔸 Where We Get Cholesterol? ⠀ ⠀ Your liver produces about 80% of your body’s cholesterol, while every single cell can also make its own cholesterol. This internal production ensures that all cellular needs are met. Only about 20-30% of your cholesterol comes from your diet, mainly from foods like eggs, dairy products, and meat. This dietary cholesterol supplements the cholesterol produced by your liver and individual cells.⠀ ⠀ 🔹 Lipoproteins ⠀ ⠀ Cholesterol doesn’t move through the bloodstream on its own. It’s carried by lipoproteins—mainly HDL and LDL. HDL, often labeled ‘good’ cholesterol, helps transport cholesterol back to the liver. LDL, essential for delivering cholesterol to cells, supports building cell membranes and producing hormones.⠀ ⠀ 📚 We’ve covered: How cholesterol is made in the body and where it comes from, its essential roles, and how it’s transported by HDL and LDL lipoproteins. Understanding these fundamentals can help you make informed choices about your health.⠀ ⠀ Want to learn more about how cholesterol affects your health? Why I Support a Plant-BASED Diet⠀ ⠀ Human Physiology is Plant-Based!⠀ ⠀ If you’re following human physiology, then you should be eating plant-based.⠀ ⠀ Nutrition is using food to support your body and health, which includes adequate energy. The easiest form of energy for your body is carbohydrates. Most carbs come from plants, specifically root vegetables, fruit, and grains. Therefore, you should eat a plant-based diet.⠀ For proteins and fat, the best sources of these are animal-based. Plants are not a source of protein. Eating a plant-based diet with meat included is optimal.⠀ ⠀ Environmental Implications- ⠀ Big meat is the poster child for industrial food production gone wrong. Small animal farmers are disappearing while factory farms are getting bigger, causing more air, soil, and water pollution in rural communities nationwide. Large industrialized farms known as concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs) rely on heavy use of antibiotics to prevent the spread of disease and promote animal growth and weight gain, which is bad for both the environment and human health.⠀ ⠀ Many people don’t realize that the majority of beef, pork, and chicken sold in supermarkets and in restaurants comes from the industrial food system. There is a big difference between the health and environmental impact of meat from animals raised in feedlots vs. those raised with regenerative practices.⠀ ⠀ I recommend replacing most of the meat you eat with local, sustainably raised grass-fed meat. Industrial agriculture is absolutely harmful to the environment, human health, and to animal welfare, but thinking you need to purchase fake meat or go vegan to protect our health and the planet is false and misguided.⠀ ⠀ Many plant-based foods can be produced locally or at home without the use of chemicals and pesticides. Animal protein can be easily produced from having your own small animals or from local farms. One of my long-term goals is to create an independent local food supply for myself and my community.⠀ ⠀ It’s Not One Way or the Other- ⠀ You can be plant-based, eat animal products, look after your health, the environment, and minimize animal suffering.⠀ ⠀ #factsoverfads ⠀ by @af.health
