![[OUT NOW] Kami Paul | A Life Behind the Drums | Podcast # 61
Born and raised in Karachi, Kami Paul is one of Pakistan’s most accomplished drummers and session musicians. The son of Robin, of the renowned singing duo Robin & Joel, Kami grew up surrounded by music, discovering his connection with the drums at just seven years old.
From performing and recording with artists such as Noori, Mekaal Hasan Band, Meesha Shafi, Ali Zafar, Zeb and Haniya, and Ustad Javed Bashir, to being a founding member of Mughal-E-Funk and contributing to multiple seasons of Coke Studio, including the phenomenon that was Pasoori, Kami’s musical journey spans genres, generations, and traditions.
In this episode, we get into his life as a drummer, the art of session musicianship, his approach to rhythm and polyrhythms, and the experiences that have shaped him as a musician. We also switch things up with Kami behind the drums, bringing some of the music he has played on and composed to life.
