Hearing The Creative Union called as a Motor City Match awardee was one of those moments where you look at each other and realize just how far this thing has come.

What started as an event series bringing Detroit’s creative community together grew into an organization, then into our first physical space. Now, we’ve been given the opportunity to move into something bigger, build it out and continue scaling the work.

There have been countless meetings, events, applications, late nights, partnerships, advocacy efforts and moments of figuring things out as we go to get here.

So standing on that stage together meant a lot.

Not simply because of the funding, but because it gives us more room to keep doing what we’ve already been doing. More space to create. More resources to share. More programming to develop. More opportunities to connect Detroit’s creative community.

We’re incredibly grateful to Motor City Match and the City of Detroit for trusting us with the resources to take this next step. And to every person who has attended an event, partnered with us, opened a door, shared knowledge or believed in what we’re building, thank you.

Every clip in this video is a piece of how we got here.

The events. The advocacy. The relationships. The community. The work.

Now, we get to scale it.

Meet the people behind the thing👋🏼

The Creative Union wasn’t built by five people with the same skill set, background or way of thinking. That’s kind of the point.

Between us, there are decades of experience across music, media, entrepreneurship, photography, marketing, operations, government, community building and Detroit’s creative economy. We’ve each experienced different sides of what it means to build a creative career, including the gaps that make it harder than it needs to be.

So we brought our brains, networks, experience and a slightly unreasonable amount of ideas to the same table.

Different strengths. One shared vision: build better infrastructure, access and opportunities for Detroit creatives.

It’s been a busy week at HQ.

We’ve been editing, writing proposals, applying for grants, making beats, writing verses, mixing and mastering, taking meetings, filming, learning to DJ, and so much more.

The Creative Union exists to strengthen the creative workforce by creating the infrastructure our community has always deserved. Every day, we’re building something bigger than ourselves.

To Enoch, Erick, and Destiny — keep shining and continue being the talented young adults that you are. As this chapter comes to a close, it’s time to step into the next part of your journeys in higher education. We have no doubt that each of you is going to become absolute stars 👏🏽♥️

From day one until now, watching your growth, diligence, and presence in our workspace has truly been an honor. We have no doubt in your capabilities and the bright futures ahead of you. It was a privilege for us to mentor you and instill knowledge and skills not only in work, but in life — and vice versa. You all taught us just as much through your perspectives, energy, and experiences along the way.

No Ice Challenge 2026: A Public Safety Stand

Ice isn’t just inconvenient, It’s dangerous. For our streets, our businesses, our community. We need proper resources to deal with it so I’m taking a stand.
