“You’re not paying for classrooms. You’re saving the ummah.”

Abdullah Mamun, President of The Islamic Seminary of America (TISA), puts it plainly: America has thousands of masajid, yet most of the imams who lead them were trained overseas. Too many communities are left without scholars who understand the lives, questions, and challenges of Muslims here.

That’s why AIC and TISA are building institutions at home, training scholars rooted in tradition who are ready to serve our masajid, our youth, and our families.

This work can’t wait for someday. Every gift funds a student, a teacher, and a future imam who will serve our communities and broader society for decades.

“Through this partnership at AIC and TISA, our objective is to bring about leadership, bring about individuals who are imams, who are chaplains, who are teachers, who are involved in the community, to make sure that Islam is relevant.”
Abdullah Mamun, President, The Islamic Seminary of America

At the AIC & TISA Banquet, Building Believing Academics, Br. Abdullah Mamun shared why this partnership matters so urgently:

Our communities need imams, chaplains, and teachers who are trained here, understand American life, and can serve the next generation. Together, AIC and TISA are working to make that future possible. 🤍

“We as Muslims believe in the sadaqa jariya… When you support AIC and TISA, you are not actually paying for the classroom… [but] what happens outside the classroom: in our families, in our communities, [for] generations.”
Dr. Talaat Pasha, Faculty Council Chair, American Islamic College, and Director, Arabic Language Institute

At the AIC & TISA Banquet, Building Believing Academics, Dr. Talaat Pasha reminded us that supporting Islamic higher education is a form of sadaqa jariya, an ongoing charity whose reward continues long after we’re gone. Every gift goes beyond tuition and textbooks. It invests in leaders who will serve our families and communities for generations. 🤍

“What we do in our communities for the next 30 years will shape Islam for the next 300 years.”

At the AIC & TISA Banquet, Building Believing Academics, Dr. Yasir Qadhi, Dean of Academic Affairs at The Islamic Seminary of America, spoke about our generation as the one and only bridge between the heritage of our parents and the future of our children.

He closed with a heartfelt du’a:
“I hope, and I pray that in our lifetimes, insha’Allah, we see the results of this partnership in an unprecedented way. We ask Allah to make us all true leaders of this ummah, to allow us all to be harbingers that bring khayr, good and barakah, and to open up doors of good with the keys that Allah has blessed us with.” Ameen.

“What we do in our communities for the next 30 years will shape Islam for the next 300 years… This generation will be the one and only generation that is the conduit from the past to the future.”
Dr. Yasir Qadhi, Dean of Academic Affairs, The Islamic Seminary of America

At the AIC & TISA Banquet, Building Believing Academics, Dr. Qadhi spoke about the unique responsibility of our generation. We were born and raised in America while still connected to the heritage of our parents. What we build now, especially our institutions of learning, will shape the faith of our children and grandchildren for centuries to come.

“I am for truth, no matter who tells it. I am for justice, no matter who it is for or against. I am a human being first and foremost, and as such I am for whoever and whatever benefits humanity as a whole.”

At the AIC & TISA Banquet, AIC President Dr. James Jones shared the quote that transformed his life. He read it in The Autobiography of Malcolm X during his junior and senior years at Hampton University. Malcolm X wrote these words after his pilgrimage to Mecca, and they still speak to the mission of Islamic higher education: seeking truth, standing for justice, and serving all of humanity. 🤍

The Prophet (s) said: “Whoever takes a path in search of knowledge, Allah will make easy for him a path to Paradise.” (Sahih Muslim 2699)

Every class, every book, every question asked sincerely is a step on that path. Renew your intention to seek knowledge for the sake of Allah, and support the institutions that make that path possible for generations to come.

“If you plan for a year, plant rice. If you plan for 10 years, plant trees. But if you plan for a lifetime, invest in education.” 🎓

“Every one of us, Muslim and non-Muslim, has a responsibility to do something about what’s going on. The reality is that we are two unlikely institutions who come together on behalf of Muslims and on behalf of the United States of America.”
Dr. James Jones, President, American Islamic College

At the AIC & TISA Banquet, Building Believing Academics, Dr. Jones spoke about the power of an unlikely partnership. American Islamic College and The Islamic Seminary of America are two institutions with different histories, united by one purpose: to serve the Muslim community and strengthen the nation we call home.

This partnership is about more than education. It’s about responsibility: building institutions that prepare scholars, leaders and chaplains who serve all of society.

When American Islamic College was founded in 1981, it began with a vision: a home for Islamic higher education here in America.

At our AIC & TISA Banquet, Board Member Dr. Aisha El-Amin reminded us of the visionaries who made it possible and why that vision matters more than ever today.

Grounded in faith. Dedicated to knowledge. Built for our community. ✨

On Friday, October 16, Dr. İbrahim Özdemir of American Islamic College delivered a khutbah at IMAN Chicago on “The Noble Journey of Knowledge and Wisdom.”

He reminded us that Islam’s first command was Iqra’, to read, and that one of the Prophet’s (s) first institutions in Madinah was the school of the Suffah. The early Muslims saw education as essential to the Ummah’s survival, not a luxury.

As he explained, the early community did not treat higher education as a luxury. They saw it as essential to the Ummah's survival and sustained it with their own resources. That spirit, carried forward through waqf, built centers of learning from Central Asia to Andalusia.

Today, AIC and TISA carry that legacy forward. Strong institutions need more than good intentions.
