Excited to play this along with a bunch of other awesome tunes at @artworthfest tomorrow! Come spend a Friday afternoon with our quintet! #justacloserwalk by @airandvalve
More Bach! Using familiar melodies to workshop my tone. This Wilson Eefer is massive and plays very well, but it’s not very cooperative. Long tones -> nice comfortable melodies = good internal concept of my sound. Enjoy the second Menuet from the first Cello Suite in G Major 🙂 by @airandvalve
This is my favorite melody to play on cool down. It’s usually the last thing I play when I’m practicing. I’m always forced to think real hard about my tuning and consistency of tone quality through the large, slurred intervals. Do you recognize it?? by @airandvalve
Been spending some special time with the Eb recently…hammered out some excerpts yesterday! Here’s a decent recording of an excerpt from Symphonie fantastique. by @airandvalve
Playing some Bach today! The number one thing on my mind when playing Bach is BREATH and PHRASING. It’s real easy to get left in the dust if you’re not proactive about these things. Probably could’ve done with a little more shaping in this recording. by @airandvalve
Merry Christmas! This song has been lodged in my head so I figured I’d do something productive with it. Playing with a drone consistently has improved my tone quality a lot as well as my tuning! An out of tune tuba is an out of tune ensemble. Hope everyone has enjoyed their holiday! I need to get a new profile picture. by @airandvalve
This excerpt (Symphonic Dances from West Side Story is frustrating, but so rewarding. This take lacks flutter tonguing, as I suck at it. Hoping to put in some good work with Professor Little! by @airandvalve
sorry for not posting, i forgot about the account.. here’s a clip from a practice session before ensemble auditions! jai ete au bal, grantham by @airandvalve
cool warm up thing i “came up with” to practice modes. running through all modes of the diatonic scale on the same tonic note helps me with placing notes quickly, memorizing modes, and playing different scale patterns. it’s also helping me not play with awful tone quality on euph, which is always nice. by @airandvalve
i have made the all-state band! to celebrate, i’ll be posting this video of the musical equivalent to driving on the wrong side of the road (8th grade parker). i know i always say i’m gonna post on here, but i’m actually gonna try and start putting stuff out there. thanks for tuning in ✌️ by @airandvalve
slurring technical stuff helps me feel out intervals and keep my air consistent. smacking that low G at the end of this arpeggiated sequence is still probably the hardest thing for me out of all the etudes, but practice makes better! by @airandvalve
here’s an old video of me *attempting* to sight read kopprasch 35. you can spot the part where my brain turned off. it’s important to sightread slower than performance tempo, else this’ll happen. i’ll try and post some videos of my solo, it’s coming along pretty well! by @airandvalve
