POV: @diplo asks you to pace him at his run club in Phoenix

Paul, what a year we had. Better yet, you were only in Arizona for 7 of those months. I didn’t think I’d like you at first because you constantly insisted on buying me a beer and I hate beer. We sat on the bus to the M2F start, talking about life and girls. I immediately knew you were my second half. It was too easy to be your friend but I think most of that was because you felt the same about me. We were always on the same page about plans, girls, friends and life in general. We also live life in the moment and wanted to make others happy. We both can talk to anyone and made memories out of nothing. We pushed each other on the roads but made it fun. We never had to send a Venmo (mostly because you don’t have it) because you paid for me, I paid for you. I never thought much of our friendship because in the moment, things were perfect. I held the news away from our team on Sunday because I knew you wanted to see us race from up above. We won our relay wearing the Crown Club shirts we all picked out. I know that made you proud. You mean a lot to me and I hope I can carry the torch you have passed down. I miss you already and hope to make you proud until it’s my time. - Alex by @al_ex26.2

Thanks @southwestair for holding my connection back to @phxskyharbor as I was late getting into @sandiegoairport! The sunset was spectacular though!

This Sunday will be marathon #7 for me; six official races and one solo time trial three weeks after the horrid Chicago conditions in 2021.

Looking back through these photos, from my most recent marathon in Phoenix all the way back to my first in Las Vegas, this one means a little more.

I decided to train for a summer marathon in Arizona while starting a new job, traveling for two weeks to see family, and cutting out a lot of my social life. That meant a lot of miles in the Arizona oven, swimming through the humidity of South Florida, and somehow finding record heat & humidity in New England.

It definitely wasn’t the easiest way to build for a marathon, but that was also part of the plan. I wanted something hard to work toward. Something that would keep me motivated and give some purpose this summer.

Boston became a target along the way. Not something that is a make or break for me, but a challenge that I’m fortunate enough to seek. I have a lot of friends racing Boston next year, my mom lives just outside the city, and none of my friends up there have ever seen me race.

More than anything, I’m grateful that I still get to do this. I really appreciate the people who have supported me through this build and all the ones I’ve connected with over the years. There are a lot of people who have encouraged me, motivated me, run with me, or simply followed along. I appreciate that support more than you know. I hope y’all have enjoyed the absurd amount of hot summer miles on Strava, I genuinely appreciate every kudos. It means a lot to know that this goal might motivate someone else to chase something of their own. Sunday will be a celebration, along with a token of appreciation to everyone who has been a part of the journey. by @al_ex26.2

Global Run Day is to celebrate everyone I shared miles with this past year (I wish I could tag you all). Whether it was one or many, you keep pushing me to achieve more every year.

Running has completely changed how I connect with people. I went from building my social life around drinking to building it around something that is deeper than a paid bar tab. The people I’ve met through this sport are some of the most supportive, motivated, and genuine people I know. There’s something about pushing through the pain together that creates a different kind of bond. We show up for each other, we hold each other accountable, and we have a damn good time.

That’s what this past year has been. Races, trail runs, early mornings, new cities and much deeper connections.

Earth Day 2026.
A few moments from the past year.
I’m grateful for the outdoors, movement and the reminder that life isn’t going to last forever.

Inaugural year with the group and I was embraced from the first tee shot. I’ve been longing for a ‘boys trips’ and meaningful moments of connection like this past weekend. Hats off to @tlewicki and @k.riegler for building this tradition. I already can’t wait for Bogey Boys 6 out west next year!

Visual representation that half marathons are easier than dating in Arizona. Felt the love on Valentine’s Day to carry me to my 10th straight year with a half marathon PR. 1:19:51!

Hawaii was just what I imagined.

Less than 72 hours.
Impulsive yet calculated.
Two friends were in alignment.

No perfect plan — just intention.
Movement over waiting.
Trust over hesitation.

I planned along the way.
Took the risk before I felt ready.

Here’s to not hoping for the moment.
Created and executed it as I went.

Do the thing.
Create the memories.
Life isn’t going to last forever.
