Thanks Alex! It’s great to hear a filmmaker’s views on film festivals (particularly when it’s good stuff about the NBFF ;). Alex won the festival’s 2022 Emerging Filmmaker Award for his film ‘Unsaid’. It’s great to see that he’s still creating fantastic films and we’re pleased to screen his work, Huí Jiā, in our short film program on 14 November. Visit our website at www.northbellarinefilmfestival.org more more information about the festival and to purchase tickets. @eventsgeelong @geelongwaterfrontfilm @portarlington_community @portarlington.informationbooth @northbellarinefilmfestival #independentfilm by @alex_nesic

As always, a thousand thank yous to the talented cast and crew 💚 by @alex_nesic

Der glumph!? ‘Green Tree Frog’ is having its world premiere next weekend at @frasershortsfestival up in Hervey Bay, where we’re lucky enough to be one of the festival’s finalists! For our Victorian locals, the film is having its Victorian Premiere next month at @northbellarinefilmfestival down in the Bellarine Peninsula. Thank you to both of these very special Australian festivals for showcasing local talent so our art can be seen. The biggest congratulations to the entire team who helped me make this little thing. Thank you for your generosity, talent, and patience, truly 🐸💚 You can catch ‘Green Tree Frog’ on: 🐋 24th October 2pm - Hervey Bay Boat Club, Urangan QLD ⛵️ 14th November 1pm - Parks Hall, Portarlington VIC by @alex_nesic
What an incredible night at the Multicultural Film Festival, where Huí Jiā took home the award for Best Victorian Short Non-Fiction Film! 🏆 I'm so grateful to our crew, @multiculturevic, and @cinespace_inc for their support Most of all, I'm grateful to my mum for helping me share one of her many stories. This film was set in the very restaurant she ran for 20 years Tai Wah has been open for close to 60 years, and in that time it has been run by three different generations of migrants. It's a long-standing testament to the fact that Australia is a Multicultural community, and will continue to be so ❤️ Directed & Edited by: @alex_nesic Written by: @alex_nesic @pongpongist @dennisli97 Starring: Lili Bai DoP: @jack_mct Co-Producer: @madi.mxf AC, Gaffer & Stills: @madi.mxf Sound Designer: @riz.tama Recording Engineers: @pongpongist @dennisli97 Colourist: @nicholashower.colour Title Design: Huiming Guo #MFF2026 #VMC #MulticulturalFilmFestival #RefugeeWeek #CelebratingDiversity by @alex_nesic
Over the past few years, I've noticed myself slowly getting more precious about sharing my work, which probably isn't super helpful for the whole filmmaker thing As a form of exposure therapy, I've just made public a chunk of short films, uni projects, and other doodads that I've made over the last 10 years or so. They're now up on YouTube It's a bit worrying sharing older work (heck, even recent work). You hope people don't walk away thinking you hold the exact same standards or sentiments today. But I'd like to get comfortable with my creative history, without getting overly attached to or weirdly reverential about it Most of the videos have little notes in the descriptions to provide context, or what I think of them now (while trying really hard not to be too self-deprecating). 🎞️ Also, @unseen_short_film is now officially available online! So if you were curious but never caught a screening, there it is 🖥️ There's a link in my bio if you wanted to check any of it out by @alex_nesic
Wow! This has really made my year I'm so excited and grateful to be a part of the @wearevicscreen Originate Genre program's inaugural year I'm blown away by the talent of the 8 other writers and can't wait to see how their scripts develop. Genre filmmaking in Aus is sure looking bright! I've been gestating this idea for a little while now and can’t wait to share this story with everyone ✍️🎬 Special shout out to @madi.mxf for all the support by @alex_nesic
Last year I made a short film with my friends after swearing (on & off) I’d never make something again after film school (I was being dramatic). Yesterday we had our cast & crew screening. These people carried me and the film all the damn way. I can’t thank every single one of you talented and cool people enough. ** Maggie played by Mara Nacionales Shiella played by @sheenareyes Barry played by @tyeli_hannah Peter played by @donbridges2345 Debra played by Rudie Chapman Directorial 🎬 1st AD @alex_nesic 2nd AD @edevagrace Script Supervisor @sarahcabanilla Production managers @dennisli97 @pongpongist Production Assistants @oliviamurphy23456 @pppppppppauline Art 🎨 Production Design @stephaniejcrowe Head prod design assist @kayleen.montalan Prod design assistants @oliviamurphy23456 @pongpongist Costume design @natalie_petrellis Hair and Makeup @bethtamirumua Crocheter @suzanna.olofsson Camera 🎥 DOP @adamsutardy 1st AC @goss_jue_gj & Zijun Li 2nd AC @tinayebuffalo Lighting 💡 Gaffers @tom_hodgesail @dimi.stofo Grips @goss_jue_gj Sound 🎧 Recordists: Martin Harris & Michael Lau Post-Production 💻 Editor @alex_nesic Colourist: Nicholas Hower CSI Sound Design & Mix @riz.tama Post Consultant: Grayton Hevern VFX Supervisor/Consultant @jrobinsonchong Team frog 🐸 Animal Welfare Specialist @petaleeh Frog health and disease Expert: Danielle Wallace Special thank you to @damo.theanimalguy in building our tank and all the kindness and support Special Thanks @gazman_murphy, Grayton Hevern, @dinky_di1988, @alf_nicdao, Lili Bai & Vito Nesic Made with the support of @cinespaceinc Written, Directed, & Produced by 👾 Co-Produced by @alex_nesic by @alex_nesic
Had an absolutely terrific time watching some amazing shorts at @peninsulafilmfestival outdoor screening on Saturday where @unseen_short_film took home the "Best Cinematography" award! 🍾🥹 This wouldn't be possible without our Director of Photography @dimi.stofo who should be very proud of himself right now 🎞️🏆 We have the whole cast and crew to thank for this, but I wanted to highlight a few other names who directly crafted our image: Thank you @charchar.saur for shooting additional cinematography and a whole tonne of work in pre-production 🎥 @nick.smoth and @hamishrayner for lighting our scenes 💡 @slaylaciouscrumb for leading the amazing visual design which without, we wouldn't have much worth shooting 🤖 @tim.morton.imaging for bringing us colour 🔵 And @tamaralee.bailey for tying our shots together through being our irreplaceable Vagabond 🌟 by @alex_nesic
Earlier this year, I had the awesome privilege of participating in the @cinespaceinc Residency program. With their support and the help of some really great friends, I got to make a short film @huijia_shortfilm Huí Jiā is a semi-biographical short film inspired by my mother and the restaurant she and my dad ran for 20 years to build a life for our family here It's a really personal film for me, and I was really lucky to get to film it in the actual restaurant my family used to own, with mum playing to lead role It would mean a lot to me if you could give @huijia_shortfilm a follow and stay tuned for release news next year Directed & Edited by: @alex_nesic Written by: @alex_nesic @pongpongist @dennisli97 Starring: Lili Bai DoP: @jack_mct Co-Producer: @lonely.puppet AC, Gaffer & Stills: @lonely.puppet Sound Designer: @riz.tama Recording Engineers: @pongpongist @dennisli97 Colourist: @nicholashower.colour @postlab.io Title Design: Huiming Guo by @alex_nesic
