POSTS STORIES REELS

We played with magical realism in gather today and I’ll be playing with it all week. I’m just gonna make some stuff up you know? We could go anywhere.

I read out loud in gather every week because I hate reading out loud. I’ve started my day and done a hard thing voluntarily, now onto coffee and my sick baby. by @alexa.hoggatt

It’s been one year since my mom died. October is such a stereotype of a time to die. To remember the dead. It was nighttime. I had called to have the phone held to her unconscious ear to say goodbye. Just in case she could hear. I was sitting on the floor. I got a text from my sister: “She just passed”. That was it. by @alexa.hoggatt

The new gather anthology is even prettier and thicker and more wonderful than the last one! I wrote this poem near the end of my mom’s dementia battle, after I called her and she just breathed info the phone for a while. I think she’d forgotten how to speak. But I don’t know if that meant in the moment that she didn’t have anything to say, just that she didn’t remember how to. I played with white space in this one. The spaces between memories, the things she’d forgotten. The pauses and the missing things.

I found a book of Czech poetry in a Montana bookstore yesterday, and suddenly I wanted so badly to try something small and simple. I don’t know how well it really works and flows in Czech, but I’m having a lot of fun trying out moving between Czech and English by @alexa.hoggatt

Ever since I had my second baby I feel like I’m doing everything all at once, all the time, and doing all of it poorly — cleaning, communicating, showing up here with new writing or something interesting, even though I have so much support. I’m not doing this alone by any stretch, but I forget to text and call back. I get details wrong. I’m under slept and my hands are always full. Being tired makes me an easy crier all of a sudden. It’s a short blip in a long life, and it’s also beautiful — my baby is adorable. He has the best big sister. My husband is a real dad and husband who I’m still deeply obsessed with. but I do miss having some control over when and how much I sleep. Some control over the clutter that takes my house over in ten seconds. Two kids is way more kids than one kid. (Full poem in last slide)

Rather than feminine rage I tend to get feminine tired.
