Check out this mood board I made for my current writing project, The Other Fairy Godmother! ✨ I’m posting it today because I’ll be pitching the concept to agents tomorrow in #DVpit, an online event on Bluesky for diverse writers (including neurodivergent people like myself). If you have a Bluesky account, check out my page to see more about my book - and to cheer me on! I’m trying not to get my hopes up too high, but it would be INCREDIBLE if an agent showed interest!!!! 🤞 And if you want to know more: The Other Fairy Godmother is a middle-grade novel featuring a free-spirited 12 year old who doesn’t want to be queen, fractured fairytales, a magical book that dictates happy endings, sisters/best friends torn apart by fate, Happily Ever After gone wrong… and a fire-breathing squirrel! 🔥 The star of the book (and the aforementioned 12 year old) is Harriet, the Fairy Godmother’s sister. Her sharp tongue, big heart, and penchant for magic aren’t suited for royal life, but she can’t defy the Book of Fate’s Happy Ending… or can she? I won’t spoil it here, of course, so hopefully an agent (and ultimately, a publisher) will pick it up so everyone can read it and find out!!! (And to those of you who’ve known me for a while… yep, this is the same novel I wrote as my thesis for my MFA in creative writing, back in 2020! But then *life* got in the way, and with the pandemic, family drama, and the loss of my grandma… let’s just say that the energy I had left for writing was ZERO. But things are finally different - and better! - now! Which made this the perfect time to get back to the story that has held such a big piece of my heart for so many years. Maybe now my book AND I will both live Happily Ever After!!!) #amwri̇ti̇ng #authorsofinstagram #amquerying #mybook #fairytales #middlegrade #fairytaleretelling #fairygodmother #authorsofinsta #middlegradefantasy by @alexandrazlazar
New profile picture! 💙✨💜 What finally convinced me to change my profile picture? Well, for one, it’s literally been YEARS. 🤣 And I really like this photo of me from earlier this summer, when I dressed up for a galaxy-themed event! Blue and purple (my favorite colors), stars (my favorite shape), and just the right amount of pixie dust… this picture is 100% me! And it matches my author brand too: the magical, whimsical flair perfectly reflects my writing style. 👩🏻‍💻 Speaking of which, that’s another reason I finally updated my picture: I want all of my accounts to look cohesive and (slightly) professional, if agents start looking at them! Yes, AGENTS… during DVpit, TWO agents liked my pitch!!! This doesn’t mean either of them will actually want to represent me (it’s more like a jump-start to skip the line when I query them) but it’s VERY exciting, and also VERY motivating!! I’m not sending out my queries quite yet, because the pitch-writing process inspired me to make some final edits to my book first. But when I do, I’ll need all the good luck and pixie dust I can get!!! 🤞✨ #newprofilepic #writersofinstagram #authorsofinstagram #amwri̇ti̇ng #amquerying #pixiedust #thisisme #galaxydress #authorphoto #bookstagram by @alexandrazlazar
I’m thrilled to share the agent’s guide for my middle grade novel, The Other Fairy Godmother: a fairytale reimagining/mash-up about the Fairy Godmother’s sister! ✨ This project holds a huge piece of my heart, and I’m so excited to share more about it. Swipe to see my pitch, my comps, the vibes, the first page, and a mood board for @joypit_pitch_event! 📖 Once upon a time, the Fairy Godmother helped Cinderella go to the ball. But that’s far from the whole story… In Charmington, where a magical book dictates happy endings, free-spirited 12-year-old Harriet is destined to be queen. Thanks to suffocating restrictions and an even more suffocating prince, it’s a happy ending that feels horrible — but if she unleashes her powers to break free, she’ll break the kingdom too. Can she embrace her true self, even if it means defying the Book of Fate AND her sister/best friend, the Fairy Godmother? As fairy tales fall apart and legendary destinies turn upside down, Harriet and her sister will need to find a way to put their differences aside… or else everyone in the kingdom will live UNhappily ever after. The Other Fairy Godmother features fairytale mash-ups, subverted happy endings, and blurred lines between hero and villain like THE SCHOOL FOR GOOD AND EVIL, THE LAND OF STORIES, and ONCE UPON A TIME, with the sister relationship in FROZEN and the character dynamics of WICKED. As a lifelong fairytale lover who believes in happy endings (but not always the ones you expect) this book means the world to me! I’ve written books for Disney Publishing as a writer-for-hire, contributed to the NYT bestselling Kingdom Keepers series, and wrote short stories for anthologies, but this is my first original novel. I’ve been working on it for almost a decade, and if an agent picked it up, it would be a dream come true! So if you’re an agent, thank you for your consideration. And to everyone else, thanks for the support! 💖 Let’s hope that Harriet, her sister Virtuosa, and her fire-breathing squirrel Coal (yes, you read that right 🔥) have the opportunity to live Happily Ever After on bookshelves someday! #JoypitMGFantasy #JoypitMGFairytaleRetelling #agentsguide #amquerying #joypit by @alexandrazlazar
Thor says to get out and vote! 🗳️🇺🇸 Today is Election Day for the midterms, and voting is more important than ever. It’s not just about politics: it feels like the literal future of our country, if not the WORLD, is on the line. Not to mention human rights, the environment, gas and grocery prices, inclusivity, healthcare, the rights and safety of so many groups (including women, LGBTQ+ people, immigrants, and people of color) and so much more... including kindness and basic human decency. This is our best chance to change the course of things without waiting another two years until the next presidential election, and we can’t afford to miss it. So much is wrong with our world right now, and sometimes the problems feel too big to do anything about them. But this is one thing we can all do. Make your voice heard, vote, and elect people who will change things for the better! #vote #election2026 #vote2026 #getoutandvote #labradoodle by @alexandrazlazar
Happy Halloween! 🎃 👻 I hope your day was full of treats, only the good type of tricks, and lots of SPOOKTACULAR fun! I’ll post more photos from my festivities later, but for now, check out my Halloween outfit! It’s not even a costume - I’m just that festive! 😂 #happyhalloween #happyhalloween🎃 #halloweenoutfit #feelingwitchy #halloweeniscool by @alexandrazlazar
Happy Halloween Eve! 🎃👻 It’s hard to believe that Halloween is tomorrow already!! But my house is all ready: it looks SPOOKTACULAR, if I say so myself! Disney isn’t the only place that goes all-out for Halloween, haha! Here are a few photos of some of my favorite festive areas: the front porch (featuring our Halloween classic - the homemade front door monster, Doorbert), the family room, and our enormous inflatable Mickey Mouse pumpkin! #halloweendecorating #halloweendecorideas #halloweenspirit #halloweenporch #halloweendecorations🎃 by @alexandrazlazar
Little town, it’s a… Magic Kingdom? 🩵📚🏰 When I wore my Belle costume to Walt Disney World for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween party, I couldn’t resist tracking down all of the locations that tie into Beauty and the Beast - from the Beast’s castle, to Gaston’s tavern (he’s still positively primeval), to visiting Belle’s enchanted friends, and finally ending up in her library! And of course, I did it in true Belle style: 🎶 with a dreamy far off look, and my nose stuck in a book! 🎶 It was a blast channeling my favorite Disney princess, and it made my Halloween trip even more memorable! What do you think: did I do a good job channeling my inner Belle? 📖 #disneyhalloween #beautyandthebeast #bellecosplay #belle #magickingdom @disneyparks by @alexandrazlazar
Boo to you! 🎃👻 Happy Halloween from the Magic Kingdom! Mom and I had a SPOOKTACULAR time on our Halloween trip to Walt Disney World! We were only there for a few days, and we spent all of them at my favorite park: Magic Kingdom! (Plus one evening at Disney Springs when MK closed early.) On the last night of the trip, we attended Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween party and I wore my Belle costume, which I’ll show off in a reel tomorrow. But even the regular park days were full of festive fun since both the park AND us were decked out in our Halloween-y best, as you’ll see in these photos! #disneyhalloween #disneyphotopass #magickingdom #mickeysnotsoscaryhalloweenparty #disneystyle @disneyphotopass @disneyparks @wdwannualpassholders @disneyvacationclub by @alexandrazlazar
Bonjour from Belle! 🩵📖 This Halloween, I’m dressing as my favorite princess: Belle! I’ve always related to her uniqueness, the way she’s not afraid to stand out from the crowd or speak her mind, her love of books, and her closeness with her family… as well as her brown hair and blue dress - my favorite color! It’s no wonder that Beauty and the Beast is my favorite fairytale. The only surprising thing is that it’s taken me this many years to do this Halloween costume! I’ll be wearing it to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Walt Disney World later this week, but first I tested it out at home, which resulted in this video! Watch until the end to see some of our Halloween decor cameo as the villagers - although with that much festiveness, our yard is far from provincial! 😂 #disneyhalloween #beautyandthebeast #bellecosplay #belle #disneyprincess by @alexandrazlazar
Last year, @andydrew82 and I channeled our inner Buzz and Jessie at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Walt Disney World! 🎃 I’ve been going to Disney Halloween parties for years but Andrew had never been, so it was extra exciting to get to dress up and go together! Toy Story is a longtime favorite for both of us, so it was an easy choice for our costumes - and the fact that Buzz and Jessie are a couple themselves made it even better. We had SO much fun going on rides, trick or treating, taking pictures, meeting the Disney characters… and getting approximately a zillion compliments on our outfits! Also equally memorable? The fact that Andrew officially called me his girlfriend there for the first time (after a slow transition from friends, to more than friends, to making it official) so it’s one year since that, too! ❤️ Unfortunately, Andrew has work so he can’t come with me to the party this year… but I’m already looking forward to next year! Being my boyfriend quickly turned him into a Disney fan by association! 🤣 #mickeysnotsoscaryhalloweenparty #disneyhalloween #toystory #disneyphotopass #toystorycosplay @thedisneybound @disneyphotopass by @alexandrazlazar
Happy 100th birthday, Winnie the Pooh! 🍯🐝🧸 October 14th marked one hundred years since the first Pooh book was published: that’s a whole century of rumbly tumblies, hunny pots, and adventures in the Hundred Acre Woods! Pooh and his friends have always held a very special place in my heart, so to celebrate, here are photos from three special Pooh-themed experiences I had this year! 🍯 Back in January, @kelseymgomez, @qtcarcar25, and I channeled our inner bears for a fun day in Epcot: we all wore Pooh DisneyBounds, brought our NuiMOs of his friends, and even met Pooh himself! 🐝 And earlier on the same trip, Mom and I went to Crystal Palace at the Magic Kingdom, where you can meet the Pooh friends while enjoying a delicious breakfast. I don’t care how old I get: I’ll always be thrilled to give them a hug! 🧸 And lastly, when my friends and I went to New York City together last month, we went to the New York Public Library where we got to see the ORIGINAL plushes of Pooh and his friends in person! It was surreal to see the actual toys who inspired the stories I love so much! #winniethepooh #poohbear #winniethepooh100 #disneybound #nuimos @thedisneybound @disneyphotopass @pooh @nypl @disneyvacationclub @wdwannualpassholders @jimjcummings by @alexandrazlazar
When the group finally leaves the group chat and meets in NYC… but forgot to plan how to actually find each other 😂 Our long-distance friendship turned into an in-person adventure when we visited New York City! We had a blast taking in all the sights, from Broadway to Central Park and beyond. On the last night of our trip, we took over Times Square: we stayed until midnight, and even the rain couldn’t stop our fun! ☂️ Enjoy our fun in the 🌧️ #newyorkcity #timessquare #newyorklife #broadway #timessquarenewyork by @alexandrazlazar
