🐰 Meet Alexsito, the Bunny!
A curious little friend exploring big feelings and big questions
🦋 Alex’s Butterflies, the short film, coming soon!

POSTS STORIES REELS

Like many kids, Alex sometimes feels anxious, worried, or overwhelmed, especially when learning about heavy and difficult topics.

There are many ways we can help children work through big feelings, and sometimes the best start is just to be there with them 💙

Happy Birthday, Jim Henson! 💚 Thanks for showing us just how much a puppet can say.

Alex’s Butterflies is inspired by the creative and impactful work of Jim Henson, whose puppets have brought generations of families together through heartfelt stories, imagination, and humanity.

We’re proud to carry a little piece of that spirit into Alex’s story, using puppetry as an approachable and familiar way to help children navigate difficult conversations around family separation.

Say hello to little Alexito, el conejito! Being able to make art that helps families discuss hard topics such as deportation is exactly why I love performing. Puppets have always been political and I’m hoping this project is more than just a statement but a resource to let people know that they are not alone. I’m extra thankful to @bethleak and @jesenquiz for making this all happen and trusting @aymeegarcia1234 and me with these complex characters.
We’ve wrapped on filming earlier last month but we still need your help to get the word out there to make this short film reach the right audience. I’ll share more as we get closer to completion but for now please like, share, and donate if you can. Seguimos Juntos

About two months ago, I was reached out to by @catharticcreature about an amazing new project called @alexs_butterflies 🐰🦋 Directed by @jesenquiz and @bethleak, this project follows Alexsito, an adorable bunny rabbit as he deals with one of the hardest topics of right now, deportations. There is currently NO children’s media that deals with this topic. The short film follows Alexsito (played by @andrewacano) as he waits for the school bus and deals with the anxiety of the unknown after the deportation of his father. It is an incredibly thoughtful story that touches on some really tough questions those experiencing deportation of people in their lives (including themselves) may have. Malaika and I talked about the process of getting an indie puppetry project off the ground, fundraising, and more. I’m so proud that this project has almost reached its $5000 GoFundMe goal, and encourage you to donate and follow the project on Instagram @alexs_butterflies. How many new followers can we get them today? I love this project so much, and hope it gets nothing but success. Children and families should NOT have to be dealing with this, but thank you to the Alex’s Butterflies team to giving them a tool to have a small light in the darkness. 🦋 #indie #puppets #anxiety #kidsmedia #educationalmedia by @alexs_butterflies

We wrapped filming for Alex’s Butterflies 🎥🦋

Now, the story continues in post-production!

We’re still raising funds for editing and the final touches, with at least $3,000 needed to get us there. Every bit of support helps us continue moving this project forward and make the film everything we hope it can be.

Thank you for being part of the journey. We couldn’t do this without you! 🤍 by @alexs_butterflies

A film with a mission! 🦋

Alex’s Butterflies is tackling big topics seldom discussed in children’s media — while giving parents tools to start meaningful conversations with their kids.
