Since we’re doing #F1 memories of the #Malaysia Grand Prix, thought I’d share my first run in qualifying in 2002. I remember being in good shape after FP2 but unbeknownst to the engineer and me #asiatech decided to change the TC maps before qualifying. Made for a challenging session. by @alexyoongf1

Our October cover star @alexyoongf1 ranks his five favourite race tracks, from the familiar flow of @sepangcircuit to four wheels off the ground at @nuerburgring.

Which circuits would make your top five?

Pretty chuffed with that! Huge thanks to the team @switchracing this one is definitely my favourite Pole so far 🫶🏽

@sandro_perissoutti and @louis_rossi_96 are legends for the laps they put in. Big job ahead of us tomorrow but this is a very sweet feeling 🔥 by @alexyoongf1

Our October cover star Alex Yoong (@alexyoongf1) is from a family of athletes and champions. Now, his son @alisteryoong is making his own mark as a professional racing driver.

“We touch base all the time. We both learn off each other,” says Alex.

“Alister and I are different people. And I know if I’d been the sort of dad that pushed him, it wouldn’t have gone well.”

Alex Yoong started racing at 16. “Looking back now, I thought, what a stupid idiot,” he says.

He’s typically humble about his achievements, but Yoong has flown the Malaysian flag at Formula 1, 24 Hours of Le Mans, A1GP, and many more. Now, he’s training the next generation of drivers through @axlemotorsport.

As Sepang gets ready to welcome Formula 1 for the first time since 2017, the U.S. Embassy hosted an F1 Returns to Malaysia reception at Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur. Our guest of honor was @alexyoongf1, Malaysia’s first Formula 1 driver and the man who put the Jalur Gemilang on the F1 grid. 🏁

Guests got up close with the official FIA Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship trophy, one of the most coveted prizes in motorsport. Chargé d’Affaires David Gamble highlighted how American excellence is woven into Formula 1, and how the sport brings the United States and Malaysia together through a shared passion for speed, innovation, and teamwork. 🇺🇸🤝🇲🇾

Good luck, Sepang! See you on the grid this weekend. 🏎️💨 by @alexyoongf1

There’s always time for a good conversation about racing, and it has taught me one thing: know when to push, and know when to take a break. 🍫

Thank you @kitkatmalaysia for having me! Check out the KitKat Fanzone at the upcoming FORMULA 1 GULF AIR BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX IN MALAYSIA 2026, happening at Sepang International Circuit from 2-4 October 2026.

Two generations. One track. One mindset.
Spending the day at Sepang with Malaysian racing legend Alex Yoong and Alister Yoong was a masterclass in focus, respect, and quiet power.

This isn’t just about speed. It’s about the moments between. The mentor’s advice. The calm before the helmet goes on. The shared smile after.

Like all Malaysians, I’m just as excited for the next #F1 Grand Prix that’s just around the corner. More exciting, the 1:1 LEGO Mercedes-AMG F1 W14 E Performance car makes its appearance at the LEGO pop-up at Ombak KLCC in #Malaysia for the first time ever.
