POSTS STORIES REELS

It’s that time of year again….This is a long post but if you like ghost stories - here is ours. And it just keeps getting creepier.

There was quite a kerfuffle when we first moved in. It was Christmas Eve, boxes to unpack, a little toddler darting around, and just two weeks after our move, the baby arrived. It’s fair to say we were distracted.

One evening, we finally found a moment to relax. The baby had settled down, and our toddler was in bed. Bliss. But then, we heard the sound that makes all parents sigh - the rhythmic thud thud of an awakened child running down the corridor.

Without a word, we exchanged glances and decided I should go up and guide her back to bed. As I reached the bottom of the stairs, I could feel she was right at the top, sheepishly hidden around the corner. But when I arrived at the top, she wasn’t there.

In the dark, I called out her name, but received no response. I wandered to her room and found her fast asleep in her bed. I thought it must be sleep deprivation or baby brain making me hear things.

But it continued...every night for months. We began to ignore it, attributing the noises to various causes.

Then in the summer, my sister and I were downstairs with the kids. All four were sat right in front of us. The baby monitor was still on from nap time, and as I approached it, something caught my eye. On the screen, it looked as if a child was still in the cot (I recorded it and have shared it on my stories- see what you think).

Though it scared the s*** out of me, I chose to push it aside since we had no plans to move from our dream house.

The thudding continued. Every night. A few weeks later, we were chatting in the garden with the couple who had sold us the cottage (they lived here for 40 years). We were in the part of the garden where we had discovered a headstone for a mother and her son, I mentioned it to see if they knew the history. Our neighbors then asked, “Have you heard it yet?” Confused, I inquired, and they responded, “The running sound in the corridor.”

There is more to the story… which I’ll finish in comments. Do you believe in ghosts, or do you have any ghost stories of your own? I’d LOVE to hear them. by @alice.d.margiotta

Our perfectly imperfect forever project.

I know I’ve found my house soulmate because, in my lottery win scenario, I don’t move. I just buy a sofa that’s not covered in coffee stains. ☕️ by @alice.d.margiotta

Chrysanthemum was originally designed as a wallpaper by William Morris in 1877.
I loved styling this contemporary interpretation which has been recoloured for the @wmorrisandco Simply Morris collection.

Once a summer person, now unreasonably invested in a season that lasts approximately five minutes. 🍂 by @alice.d.margiotta

👻 Tried to squeeze the full story into a video, but had to get it down from 25 minutes! There’s so much to say, I could honestly talk for hours.

Anyway, give it a watch and let me know your thoughts… because what on earth is going on here?! 🦷 by @alice.d.margiotta

I’m afraid I have absolutely nothing inspirational, educational, and arguably not even anything interesting for you this morning.

Just a small collection of June things that have made me smile.

I hope she’s been treating you kindly so far too. 🫶🏼 by @alice.d.margiotta

A little Halloween update coming tomorrow! 🎃

A palette cleanser and slightly less dramatic post from yesterday’s.

June in England: everyone acting on the assumption that summer has arrived, despite decades of evidence to the contrary. ☔️ by @alice.d.margiotta

Firstly, if you haven’t read our ghost story, it’s saved in my highlights. Have a look and tell me what you think of the image on the baby monitor because I’m still waiting for a good explanation for that one… 👻

So, here’s my update: For the four and a half years we’ve lived here, it’s mostly just been the same thing…the running in the corridor (and the random child on the baby monitor and the invisible crying child at the top of the stairs) but mostly just the running sounds in the corridor…which we are strangely used to now.

But a few weeks ago, something happened that I have to admit I did find pretty strange. Is it ghost related? Open to opinions.

I was working downstairs and could hear a noise outside. It sounded like a hedge cutter or a saw somewhere outside. Not loud enough to really think about. I just assumed someone nearby was doing work in their garden.

I was busy working so kind of tuned out. I had barely registered it until I got up to go upstairs and realised the sound was actually coming from inside the house.

As I reached the top of the stairs, I genuinely felt disoriented for a second because I couldn’t work out what I was hearing or where it was coming from.

I walked into my son’s room and realised an electric train was running against the wall. I knew immediately it wasn’t the only thing on because of how loud the noise was. After some digging I found his toy drill and a saw, which were inside a bag in his toy box both running. (You have to press the button continuously for them to work) after I found them and pulled them out they stopped. But I could still hear a noise from the bathroom

My electric toothbrush, which had been out of battery all week, was vibrating nonstop in the sink. When I picked it up it was so hot. I pressed the button over and over and couldn’t turn it off.

They had all turned on at the same time and had been running for hours. I had to leave for school pick-up, so I left it there still going. I have to say I wasn’t in a rush to go back to the cottage.

This is the first thing like this that has happened. Thoughts on what could have cause it welcome? 🫣🙏 by @alice.d.margiotta

My favourite place is usually wherever these two are eating snacks I specifically packed for myself. 🍿🥨🫒 by @alice.d.margiotta

We’ve reached the point in life where a @nationaltrust membership feels like a genuinely thrilling purchase.

A play in the garden, an over priced scone, a gift shop purchase nobody needed. Rinse and repeat.

Some of our best family memories have been made within about 20 minutes of home.

Despite what this platform sometimes makes me feel… we absolutely do not need fancy-pants holidays to have the best summer. 🌞 by @alice.d.margiotta

What happens when you give the tiniest room in the house the tiniest budget?

Apparently, good things…

Maybe it’s because we had to work a bit harder to make every inch earn its keep, but despite being able to touch all four walls at the same time, this has somehow become my favourite room in the cottage.

Swipe to see where we started. by @alice.d.margiotta
