There are a lot of hands and hearts behind this movement, and we’re thankful for every single one of them. 🫶 by @allgirlsflag
IT’S OFFICIAL! 🏈💗 The application has officially been submitted to the MIAA! We are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped us reach this important milestone. A special thank you to all of the incredible people behind the scenes who dedicated countless hours to making this effort possible. We also want to thank everyone who used their platforms to amplify our message, along with the reporters and media outlets who helped share our story. 💗 And a huge THANK YOU to every Principal, Athletic Director, player, coach, family, school and community member who supported and advocated along the way. This would not have been possible without you! The application now enters the MIAA’s formal review process. The work continues, and we can’t wait for the 2027 season! 🏈💗 by @allgirlsflag
This is what a role model looks like… advocacy. Showing girls they belong by showing up strong. Did you know 1/2 of girls opt out of sports by the time they finish puberty & that 7-10 of those girls said they felt like they didn’t belong in sports, that society didn’t support them in sports, and that there were not enough visible female role models in sports? Well right now, girls flag football is one of the places I can show up as a role model and advocate for support by helping make it a varsity sport across the USA. Check your state. Check your school. And see how you can help make it a varsity sport, because it matters. Status and support help girls stay in sports. #grrridirongirls #flagfootball #girlflagfootball #coachjen by @allgirlsflag
To get girls flag sanctioned as a varsity sport we need a minimum 58 letters signed by principals to submit its application by October 1, Bernardo said. At the time of the co-founders’ interview with High School on SI, they had 31—leaving 27 still to secure. Under the MIAA’s process for adding an emerging sport, support letters must come from member schools that currently sponsor the sport or intend to do so. The application must be initiated by a member school leader. Submitting it gives the proposal a chance to be reviewed by the MIAA Board of Directors; it does not guarantee approval. @allgirlsflag is coordinating. We need your help to get girls flag football sanctioned as a varsity sport in MA! By Oct. 1, 15% of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association’s member schools must submit letters of support to the MIAA for flag to gain emerging sport status, the first step toward becoming an official varsity sport. If they don’t reach 15% by the deadline, they’ll have to wait until Oct. 1 next year to try again. by @allgirlsflag
