feeling very grateful for dance today. it is impossible to describe just how much this art form has shaped my whole life, and how it has saved my life countless times. from rec classes as a little kid, to competition throughout middle and high school, and now to college dance, i have gained so much knowlege and awareness of both my body and mind. a lot of my closest friends are people i have met through dance. movement is so inherently vulnerable and personal, so i feel like dancers automatically become so connected to one another, even in short amounts of time. dancing keeps me grounded and in tune with myself. i feel drawn to dance when i am joyful and excited, but also when i am scared or upset. movement, as well as how we care for the body has so much power over our emotions. creating art and being a part of art is so important, especially in a world full of hate, and a world that diminishes creative fields. art, including dance, brings people together. it is a cross-cultural bridge that leads to understanding and a shared sense that we all expeience the human condition. artists are needed just the same as doctors or engineers. all the dancers and instructors i know are some of the most intelligent and insightful people i have met. dance requires inhuman strength in the body and mind, and i feel so lucky to be constantly surrounded by people who are so in tune with their whole selves, and who are also incredible at what they do. movement is everywhere and present in everything. dancers and dance teachers constantly channel movement of the body to engage in cultural traditions, to entertain audiences, to connect to friends and family, or to challenge common perceptions of the universe. basically, dance is cool and dancers are cool!!!!! i fall in love with dance over and over again every day. by @almawdances
using the same base phrase and then doing it to different songs whoohoo! songs: awful by hole, no excuses by alice in chains, perfect world by liz phair, cemetery gates by the smiths (i have rights to none of them) by @almawdances
for this (very long) improv, i was trying to swap the movements that i normally do in my arms and mimic them in my legs and vice versa. thumbs up. the song is called looking through the glass by the band ida. everyone please listen to ida band. you must. by @almawdances
rare full improv post 😯😯!! my intention with this was to not rush through any movements, and to fully finish every thought. it's kinda boring to watch and also the angle is weird and also it is in a quite small space but i am gonna post it #sorry the song is "winter born" by niklas paschburg and i do not have rights to it (the crowd goes wild and then banishes me) ok that is all. by @almawdances
i know this is not a dance post buuuut, for me, writing works similarly to dancing, so i shall post this here anyway. today marks three years without my grandma on my mom's side. i wish i could tell her all about college, dancing, my friends (she would love all of you), work, and books i am reading, but i can't. i wrote this a few months ago. i miss you, nannie, forever and ever. by @almawdances

"notes on a sestina" choreo by me whoohoo i like sestina poems very much so i wrote one a few months ago. then i asked some people to record themselves reading it, which became my soundscore!! it's about a lot of things but like surface level: i focused on the teeny tiny habits and rituals everyone has in their lives, and the intimacy associated with learning someone else's mundane routines. i think there is something sacred in the miscellaneous details that organize a person's life. some of the song guilty cubicles by broken social scene is at the end also by @almawdances
ingydar - improv (4/3/26) to ingydar by @adriannelenker i do not have music rights !!! by @almawdances
