if my daughter is a willow,
then let me be water
a river at her feet, nourishing the soil she stands on

quenching the birds
that perch upon her
so that they might
whisper into her ears
the words I know
i will not always be around to say ..

Let her
see her reflection in me
and love every branch, however imperfect

let her rise high,
and be as tall as she can be even if growing means outgrowing me
and as she graces the sky, let me love her so loudly that she can always hear my voice

and when I cannot stop
the cold from coming,
and her leaves begin to fall,
let me catch them in my waters
and watch them grow back
even stronger in the spring
different versions of my girl, but always the willow I knew at first roots

and when my river runs dry, and death takes my hand, let her find me in the rain,
and in the love she has for her own daughter one day.

Her softest season ..🤎✨

A message from your new baby …
I wake and slowly open my eyes.
I can’t see much yet.
I move my head from side to side and stretch out my scrunched body.
Am I where I think I am?
I check for your softness beneath me, your scent above me, and your touch around me.
You’re here.
I’m home.
And so my heart rate slows.
I nuzzle close into you to fill my tummy with your warm milk.
I don’t taste your tired, or depletion - just your love.
My eyes start to feel heavy again as I am living in my own dream awake.
“You are heaven. I can’t wait to see you here again soon” I think, as I fall into a deep sleep, knowing - There is nowhere I would rather be.

Lord, let me live to 120…

One day, my children will need someone to bathe them and put them to bed again.
To help them eat and soothe them to sleep.
They will become old and gray
and deep wrinkles will line their faces.
I want to be there like I was in the beginning, like now.. brushing their hair and pulling the blankets over their shoulders.
Lord, let me live to 120.
Because I will never be finished being their mother.

..And if I did have a daughter, I can only hope she would be proud of the woman who made her.
I hope she looks in the mirror and sees parts of me and smiles.
I hope she would know
that no matter what she faces in life, she carries me flowing through her veins, which means she carries the spirit to fight, to grow,
to become anyone she wants to be.

Absolutely loved capturing this family with four daughters something so special about it to me🤎✨

Okay… why does posting something outside of my normal style feel mildly illegal?

I’ve had the privilege of photographing this family for the last few years, and every time they step in front of my camera, we create something that feels like us. But this time, we decided to shake things up a little.

Something different. Something fun. Something that let me stretch a completely different creative muscle.

And I LOVE it.

But then came the part where I actually wanted to , post it.

It’s funny how, as artists, we can become so attached to what people expect from us that stepping outside of that little box can feel strangely vulnerable. My work has a style, a feeling, a certain way I normally see and edit a story, and I’m incredibly proud of that. But being an artist also means giving yourself permission to play.

To experiment. To make something simply because it excites you.

Not everything we create has to fit perfectly into the little box we’ve built for ourselves.

Sometimes , creativity is supposed to wander.

So here I am, posting something a little different, feeling oddly nervous about it… while simultaneously being completely obsessed with it!!

Consider this my reminder to myself, and maybe another artist who needs it…that you’re allowed to evolve, experiment, break your own rules, and create something just because it makes your l heart happy.

Today i look at you, and i don’t think of the storms.
i think of the sunlight that found my heart, the color that found my eyes.
of all that hope of becoming someone i get to love.
i spent years wishing for a rainbow-🌈👼🏼
never knowing today id be holding one in my arms

My Daughters..
My daughters came from me, But they are not like me.
Instead, I wish to be like them.
Brazen and bold, fearless too.
They do not know about shrinking.
They are untamed and wild in a flawed world.
Being alive is a reason to smile, a person passing is a reason to wave, having a voice is a reason to shout.
They talk to everyone when we’re out.
It is hard to match such unbridled joy and so, when her outstretched hand falls, I cheer even louder.
I sweep in and tell her to never change.
That she is not too much, that the world will adjust.
I’d leap off a mountain to catch their spirit should it fall.
Maybe we’re not so different after all.

My Everything
I want to tell you everything I know, carry you and guide you.
Yet somehow,
as your tiny finger points to things in wonder and your eyes meet mine, the paradigm shifts.
I once thought I was to show you the world, when all along you came to show me.

Someday soon, I know, I will never hold you again
for even the most precious flowers outgrow the soil they come from..

so I will hold you in my arms for
as long as you will fit there
and I will hold the hands
I made from scratch
for as long as you will let me

and I will hold your snacks on the playground
and I will hold your veil on your wedding day
and I will even hold your children, I pray

and then, one day, I will go to heaven
and I’ll recognize where I am because I’ve been there before,
the very first time I held you after giving birth

and even up there, amongst angels dripping in stardust, the only angel I’ll wish to hold will still be on earth..
