Sappho of Lesbos and Cathy Ames meet at a bar 🏺😈 Sappho of Lesbos - ancient Greek lyric poet whose passionate poetry about love and desire for women inspired the modern terms “lesbian” (from her home island of Lesbos) and “sapphic” (from her name) Cathy Ames - Read Steinbeck’s East of Eden and then watch the nextflix series. by @alyssahankey
‘In This Room’ (original - unreleased) Wuthering Heights inspired song. May your absence haunt all your exes. Lyrics: Why are you sleepin’ mama in that bed you made? The curse is casted when Mercury’s in retrograde That big old blood moon brings out your primal side The room turns cold, you thought you were alone tonight But the clock is ticking on the wall And your man’s asleep down the hall And you know… CHORUS: I’m a woman of few words I never told no one how you made me hurt Silence does the talking And time reveals the truth It’s just you and me alone in this room You can lie to yourself and call it love Maybe he’s just a fool that does what you want You can hear my footsteps pacing around your place That’s my silhouette in your window frame We pay the price when the day is done It’s time you choke on that silver tongue ‘Cause you know… CHORUS Don’t you remember how you left stranded out in the wind? Your bleeding heart, your in between, Your long lost friend Come on woman, there’s no need to be afraid It’s just me haunting you until your dying day CHORUS #singersongwriter #americana #folkrock #originalsong #pittsburghpa by @alyssahankey

Happy #nationalcomingoutday 🌈 I am twelve or thirteen in this picture. It was around then I realized I liked girls. Although looking back I probably knew long before that. I think about her often. I wasted too many years loathing myself. Struggling with body dysmorphia, suppressing my feelings and feeling like I wasn’t good enough or worthy of love. I carried that secret for a decade until I couldn’t anymore. It’s crazy how many years we waste tearing ourselves down. I always say I didn’t arrive at myself until the age of 27. I would give that girl a hug and tell her she’s beautiful just as she is and this thing you hate about yourself is actually a gift. Oh, and Led Zeppelin is still the greatest band of all time. “Being gay has taught me tolerance, compassion and humility. It has shown me the limitless possibilities of living. It has given me people whose passion and kindness and sensitivity have provided a constant source of strength.” - Armistead Maupin Life is hard and growing up is hard. We all carry a heaviness that we don’t need to. So anyone out there struggling, no matter what it is, you’re not alone. Sending everyone peace & love - Alyssa by @alyssahankey
“Borrowed Lines” (Original - Unreleased) A highway love song. Lyrics: Driving through South Bend sat an old Pontiac I pulled up behind you and I changed your flat I waited there awhile, just standing in the dirt You tried to start her up but her engine wouldn’t turn You said you could use a beer And I knew a place around here CHORUS: Maybe you’d be willin’ Maybe you wouldn’t mind If I just sang to you under neon lights I could win your love forever in 3/4 time With this old guitar and some borrowed lines We drank up them beers that afternoon You ain’t from around here You’re just passing through I got me an airstream down by the riverside And I was fixing to leave in the summertime You never knew a girl like me And I can show you things you never seen CHORUS I travel around with this old six string Earning my keep with the songs that I sing You were leaving Ohio on a western highway Looking for a fresh start with your friends in LA I sure ain’t a part of your plan And jalopies never make the promised land CHORUS #singersongwriter #appalachia #folkrock #americana #originalsong by @alyssahankey

Just wanna get on here and say thank you to all the folks that came out to our release show Saturday. We sold 200+ tickets and despite rain and thunderstorms we still had ourselves a good turn out. It was so great to play a 2hour set with some finest musicians and I can guarantee y’all that we will be doing more shows together down the road. I read somewhere that this is the most rain Pennsylvania has seen in 200 years. When Mother Nature throws you a curve you gotta roll with the punches. Thank you to The North Woods @horwat @kvmulcahy @timvitullo @macerveris @ptrfreeman Thank you to @skye_burkett and @hallowayofficial for kicking things off. And most of all thank you to the folks at @bigrailbrewing for supporting myself and so many other artists over the years. Peace and Love to everyone! -Alyssa #americana #folkrock #newalbum #westernpa #appalachia by @alyssahankey
