DOPPELWELT 🦂 In the shadow of Beltane, I give you a taste of what is to come. Save the date, Texas! New two channel video premieres September 29th at Austin Film Society. 💋🎥🎬 by @alyssataylorwendt_studio
DOPPELWELT UPDATE! 🪩 As a distraction from the evils of ICE and ice storms, here is a long awaited teaser update on my new film. Finished production in November and December 2025 and as I am the reigning queen of the Latergram, here are some juicy images for your curiosity. Doppelwelt is a two channel video installation delving into mirroring, past lives, divination, collective memory, gender fluidity and the numinous hauntings of sacred objects. My team and I are diving deep into this footage for VFX, editing and the magic spicy touch needed to bring this gem to life. Thanks to my awesome team: @jimflores, @rroocckkyy, @zanebears, @rothenflue and @amanjohnson and stay tuned my lovelies for Fall 2026. 🖤🎥🍾 by @alyssataylorwendt_studio
Breaking news! Production for my new two channel video installation DOPPELWELT has begun! Three action packed days in northern Michigan and Lake Superior at the end of August, setting the tone with my mini crew of two, DP Jim Flores @jimflores and AC Rocky Conly. They knocked it out of the park! ⚓️💪🏼🦇 DOPPELWELT examines the notion of past lives, divination, twinning, gender fluidity, alternate reality and the numinous spirit of objects. Coming soon! 💜 #doppelwelt #alyssataylorwendt #divinationspheres #DIYfilmmaking #yesicensoredmyboobs by @alyssataylorwendt_studio
From the Archives: Sympathiosis (2006) Chromogenic Photograph (detail) 🖤I made this image in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, almost 20 years ago. The anniversary of this mind-numbing tragedy just passed and I have been thinking of all my friends and the people of not only New Orleans but the whole Gulf Coast that suffered so. I was documenting a project for Dreamyard, a nonprofit that my dear friend @onebillionandone worked with for years. This one brought teenagers from New York down to make projects and art in conversation with similar programs in the South, specifically Nola. In our downtime I managed to create a small series of tableau vivant with some of the less skeptical teenagers. The destruction provided apocalyptic ‘sets’ that emanated a sovereign beauty through the lens of fragile community. This vulnerability comes through in every image, so much that they are difficult to witness and have never been shown. The sorrow is too loud. I use this now to commemorate this time and the power of resilience in the face of challenging times. We are witnessing the beginnings of a fascist state in our beautiful country. The planet is roiling with ire and we are seeing mass disaster from natural climate events. Humans have long tried to harness and conquer the power of Nature but if Nature wins some of these battles then perhaps the upside is that we cannot destroy her resilience. A model for anger, a model for fighting until the end. Be a natural force of resistance today and shine brightly. by @alyssataylorwendt_studio
From the Archives: UrGear: A Nascent Kingdom (2015) Vintage child’s football shoulder pads, aluminum, latex, gold thread, Edwardian linen, bandages. 🪩🦇 From my exhibition “Compartments of Desire” at the original Women & Their Work Gallery, this was one of 29 sculptures called UrGear made out of vintage sports equipment. These are all sacred spiritual armor pieces and accessories for battle. In the show, I interviewed and photographed over a dozen brilliant people I admired in the Austin community about their sexuality and what they had overcome. I used the UrGear as emblems of their fortitude, specifically for what they had survived. 💜💪🏼 by @alyssataylorwendt_studio
