another edition of comparing my study to the reference! I should have given the face more attention, I knew it was off, especially since her face is what drew me in to the image! on to the next 🫡

does anyone else get so much satisfaction checking your study vs. your reference? I always keep my ref on the left 1/4 of my screen and work on the other 3/4 in procreate. then when I'm done I like to lay the reference over my study to see where i got it right and where I got it wrong. this is especially helpful for figure studies, I've found that I often make torsos, and especially legs and arms, way too long. which makes sense! if your reference points for arm and leg length work off of points on the torso, once the torso is off everything else will be too!

this particular study was of this pretty wig I found. I lovvvve pretty flowing hair in art, but it's actually one of my weaker skills when drawing from imagination, so I was happy this came out well. I'd really like to focus on heads, necks, hair, and clothing for a while to strengthen those skills. would love to hear what skills you're working on right now!!

well, almost everything :) I struggled in September 😅 not pictured: lots of half finished sketches with "nope" scribbled in the corner. October has started slow too...but I'm not gonna beat myself up about it 🫶

this last part of everything I drew in august is a bit of a hodge podge since the end of the month was a little rough, but we have some drawings nonetheless! I gotta tell you, that dog is my favorite of the bunch. 😭 now in September, I want to take a slightly different approach to what im working on. I'd really like to do a fully involved piece, but I'm always quite slow with those and often don't finish them at all. In fact, I have a watercolor painting I havent touched in probably a year 😅 and truth be told, it's not that far from being done! anyways, I hope you come along and join me for more drawing adventures and if you read all my rambling thoughts here, thank you! 🤪

part 1/3 of (almost) everything i drew in august! I ended up drawing most days in august. It's not something I really set out to do, it just kinda happened! I'm bringing that habit into September too, so stick around if you wanna see more of my sketches and studies. ❤️

part 2/3 of everything I drew in august! I do everything in procreate and most are referenced from Pinterest ❤️ follow for part 3!

here's another digital sketchbook roundup. quite a mishmash this time. I'll be doing a massive and complete August dump at the end of the month so stick around to see we everything I drew this month!! #digitalsketchbook #sketchbook #sketching #artistsofig #digitalart by @amanda.h_art

I haven't drawn any sailor moon fanart in a long time. I don't really do fanart at all actually, butttt sailor moon has been stuck in my head for decades, and a lot again recently. so since it's been on my mind and I didn't feel like doing a study of some kind I doodled around for about an hour based on a brief idea sketch I did the night before. enjoy 1 hr condensed into 13 seconds!

Followed a great tutorial from @polygonrunway to create this little ramen shop. I’m still working on my kitchen project for practice, but I needed the satisfaction of completing a smaller project in the meantime. Very happy with this vibey render and learned lots of new things!

Well here's something a little different from my usual art!

This project (following @lana.easteregg's lovely tutorial) feels like a breath of fresh air for me. Many times in the years since art school, I've wanted to pick 3d back up, but every time I get so overwhelmed by a combination of having forgotten so many skills and knowing how things "should" be done. And sure, there's a reason things are done the way they are. Shitty models and uvs and textures lead to ugly outcomes. But also, what I really wanted...was just to play and feel creative in 3d again.

So I finally found a Blender intro course that felt organized and simple through @cgcookie, and I suddenly felt like the world of 3d was available to me again. I did the intro course, and then about 2/3rds of the core mesh modeling course, but I was starting to feel bogged down again. Only because sometimes, I need the gratification of a full project from start to finish that has a pretty outcome. That's when I found Lana's cute cake tutorial, and suddenly I was off to the races! I've learned so much, and while there are weird things happening with the model and the rendering, well, I just don't care! It's cute, and I'm happy, and I feel like I can get back to more focused learning.

It's so easy to fall into the traps of perfection, and it's a mental space I occupy far too often. This project is a reminder to myself that it doesn't have to be perfect. I just want to learn something and make something pretty that fulfills my creative desires.

So, onto the next!

P.S. It took me a week and a half to render these 15 seconds because I kept screwing up and couldn't figure out where things were coming from, so honestly posting this is possibly my biggest win of all here 😂

if you’ve seen my reels lately, you’ll know I’m working on developing a cozy point-and-click game! One of my tasks is to start working digitally again and speed up my working process. I’ve spent some time getting really inspired by other artists’ time-lapses and seeing how they work–and more importantly, how they make digital work for them. I’ve gotten sooo disconnected from my digital process (digital was my main medium for most of my life!) that over the years I’ve convinced myself that using some digital tools is cheating. It’s not! I know my foundations, digital tools just produce a much faster result–and that's what I need to produce art for my game at a reasonable rate.

to that point, this concept took a mere 7 hours. 7 hours on a finished concept for me is kindddd of like moving at lightspeed. As a point of reference, the line art for my current watercolor painting took 9.5 hours alone. 🙃

So anyways, I hope you enjoy this cute little fairy village, and I hope to share more soon about what I’m working on!!

p.s. process video won't post in the carousel for some reason so I'll post separately soon! <3
