You can love anyone once you've heard their story.
POSTS STORIES REELS
Thomas Gray Southern He came a whole week early so we would get to enjoy his company for that much longer and what a week it has been. Though his arrival was filled with complications and fear, once again the strength of our village was shown. The power of prayer is a beautiful thing. We are grateful. We are so proud to be his parents and I (Spencer) am so honored to have such an amazing teammate to share him with. We already have a whole lotta love for this little lad. by @amandadoingthings_
We’ve been together for a decade and I’ve already loved so many versions of you. I admit that I am mourning the loss of the life we have known-our sweet, predictable bubble where you have carried me through more transition, grief, and change than we could have expected. Each challenge you have risen to, as a man and especially as a husband. The next version of you, and of us, is quickly approaching and despite the things we are saying goodbye to, I am deeply excited to watch you be a dad. You don’t even realize how good of one you’ll be…but I do because I’ve experienced the love you have to offer. The way you’ve embraced me, who you chose, is just the starting line for this little boy that we’ve created. Parenthood is going to challenge us, change us, and bind us in ways we could have never seen coming. It’ll show us our sin and God’s love in whole new ways, inviting us deeper into reliance on the perfect Father and on one another. And I just can’t imagine a better partner to jump into this new chapter with. So whatcha say, Spencer Gray? Ready to have a baby? by @amandadoingthings_
Baby Boy Southern coming May 2026 🫶 by @amandadoingthings_
The last time I saw you was almost a year ago. I don’t really know how to wrap my head around that. Or around the fact that I have to talk about you in the past tense. Or the fact that grief is an ever constant yet sneaky companion. Or the fact that I am somehow supposed to live the majority of my life without you. I’d give a lot for one last phone call with you. To catch me up on your latest irrigation project and forget to send me pictures after. To talk about when you’re going to come help me and Spence figure out our back yard. To babble on about sports stats and fantasy teams that I can’t keep up with. To walk me through your new board game that I have no hope of understanding. To hear you call me baby sister one last time. I am still figuring out how to do life without you. But I do know that I love you, big brother. And I know you loved me. by @amandadoingthings_
Losing you is something I’ll never get over. My heart aches so deeply that it feels like I’ll be in this place forever. And while I know grief won’t alway look like this, the fact is that you being gone changes everything about me. The person who I grew up with, who knew my childhood and my experiences, who gave me advice and got me into trouble, who had a knack of calling at the worst possible time, who laughed so big noises would stop coming out, who wore too much Tennessee orange, who scrunched his face up against mine every chance he got, who could convince me to play just about any board game, whose favorite ice cream flavor was old man vanilla, and who was supposed to be my longest friend, is gone. I don’t have a lot of words, I just came to say I miss you, Big Brother. It’s not the same without you. by @amandadoingthings_

Birthday Boy Photo Gallery. I love you more than words can say, Spencer Gray. by @amandadoingthings_
Six years ago, we celebrated Christmas in the hospital. This wasn’t our first hospital stay, or even our first hospital holiday, but this particular stay is marked. Marked by faithful community, marked by my most desperate prayers, but mainly marked by waiting. Our waiting was covered in twinkle lights, in board games, and not too shabby hospital grilled cheeses. But it was also covered in anxiety, unspoken grief, and tears. Though we eventually received the answer we wanted to hear, it doesn’t negate the pain of the waiting. I think about the thousands of years of God’s people waited for the Messiah. I think about the thousands of stories like my mom’s, marked with grief and anxiety. I think about how exceedingly grateful I am that God sent a baby to make all things right. That our suffering is not in vain but felt by my Savior deeper than I will ever know. May we this advent season wait with confident faith that Jesus did come to be our hope in the midst of the waiting and confident expectation that He will come back to finish what He started. by @amandadoingthings_
