POSTS STORIES REELS

My name is Amanda Russell — influence decoder, author, educator, and recovering athlete… among many other things.
I reveal the invisible forces that shape our choices… because influence is an art worth understanding.

In @amandasplaybook I’m pulling back the curtain on how true influence works in 2025.

Influence does not equal attention.
It’s not persuasion.
It’s not manipulation.

True influence is the ability to achieve desired action while creating meaningful connections in a world where everyone’s shouting the same message.

Ready to see influence differently?

Let’s connect!

Apparently I’m on this impressive list & my mom already framed a screenshot. Thanks for the inclusion, excited for the big #SXSW week ahead, and especially to #ArenaHall for hosting at the most special venue. by @amandasplaybook

You can be brilliant, confident, and right. But if people don’t feel you? They won’t follow you.

In this week’s episode, I break down the one signal that accelerates trust faster than any keynote or credential: time.
Not as theater. As truth.

This is the final chapter of The Influence Equation series—and if there’s one takeaway to carry forward, it’s this:
Leadership isn’t about scale. It’s about signal. “I choose to be here.”

🎬 NEW EPISODE LIVE: The Hidden Power of Being Underestimated | Influence Equation Part IV

There’s a moment every leader faces: someone underestimates you.

In this week’s episode, I walk through the exact moment a senior faculty member dismissed me as “the YouTube workout girl” — and the strategic move that shifted the entire room’s perception.

The key? Stop explaining harder. Start translating your value into a language they already trust.

She had the résumé. The results. The referrals.
But still—she was stuck.

Because trust isn’t distributed based on merit. It moves through whisper networks, reputational shortcuts, and one powerful act: being vouched for.

This week on The Influence Equation, we’re unpacking the real architecture of trust—and why charisma gets attention, but benevolence gets loyalty.

We’ve glamorized being “busy.”
Overflowing inbox. Back-to-back meetings. Always too “slammed” to respond.
But here’s the truth: busy doesn’t mean important. Busy means unreliable.

The people I bet on — in business and in life — aren’t the ones performing overwhelm. They’re the ones who follow through, answer when they say they will, and close loops without making chaos everyone else’s problem.

Because your inbox habits say more about your leadership than your job title ever will. by @amandasplaybook

Some of the most talked-about spots at these games?
They weren’t on the program. No tickets online. No hashtags. No signage.

From the outside: a plain white tent.
From the inside: the only place everyone wanted to be.

That’s the power of influence without overexposure — and it’s a masterclass in how brands engineer desire.

I break it all down in this week’s video.

The future of influence isn’t paid posts.
It’s relationships.

Trust can’t be scaled.
But it can be transferred.

That’s the only way brands break through.

You don’t buy community. You earn it.
Through connection. Through contribution. Through showing up.

The magic isn’t in the money—it’s in the effort.

We’ve been sold a lie:
That influence is about reach.
That the goal is to be everywhere, all the time, to everyone.

It’s not.

Real influence isn’t measured by how many people see you—
it’s measured by the right people seeing you in the right moment.

When you try to be everywhere, you dilute your impact.
When you choose where you matter, you amplify it.

So the question isn’t, “How do I show up more?”
It’s, “Where will my presence create the most momentum?” by @amandasplaybook

I wasn’t going to share this.
It felt too small to matter.
But the ripple it created… didn’t.

Honored (and wildly surprised) to be nominated as Thought Leader of the Year for the Veblen Directors Awards.

Thank you to everyone who’s been quietly cheering from the sidelines— you know who you are.

This one’s for you.
