TREY 💐 On all the days I felt the weight of mostly being known as your little sister, baby Burke, or lil Burke.. the pressure to perform at your level but on the girls side, the hype, the curiosity around our similarities, or how it feels to be your little sis that also hoops….. it really got on my nerves growing up. Not in an annoying way (actually, yes it did sometimes) but in an anxious way. It can be uncomfortable when you’re so close to a celebrity or public figure, no matter the industry. You’re constantly reminded of that person and your relation to them. It’s cool to talk about, but it comes to a point. But then I thought about how hard it is as the person. The pressure on them to perform, consistently and conform, willingly. To be counted out or counted last and still shock the world. You’re a true underdog. And you love it. It shaped you in a lot of ways and you really dreamed and believed. Then prayed. Then worked. “He’s too short, no way he can defend those 2-way guards”. “Why did he go to Michigan of all places? Ain’t he from Ohio”? I’ve seen you be pushed to the side and counted out because you won’t be a puppet. And you’ve never been silent. You’ve endured ridicule, envy, and hate, while also receiving love, real and fake. I watched you show up to your games time and time again just to not see the court. Which was interesting because you were needed...just oddly overlooked. I remember when you would match your points and minutes on multiple occasions as a sign of pure value by numbers. Just always had to show them when the ranks…. Your legacy continues 3, and your mark is made. Congratulations on being a mf Legend! Not a Columbus Legend, not an Ohio or Michigan Legend - but all of thee above. Stamped. Grateful to be a part of this beautiful basketball journey of yours. I’ve watched you hoop since I could see, and it’s been amazing to watch. I’m so proud of you. Love your lil sis❤️ by @amanib.1
