The Atlas of Popular Transport has been nominated for the Equitable and Sustainable Media Architecture category at the @mabiennale awards! We are heading to Bangkok to present this fantastic project.

The Atlas was created by the @civicdatadesignlab, with the support of @mit_lcau, and led by @datasew. The project was first exhibited at the 19th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia.

The Atlas of Popular Transport tells the story of sixteen cities worldwide that created missing data on their transport systems. By leveraging mobile technology, local actors in each city mapped the routes and stops of their popular transit networks. They shared this data openly by enabling downloads, uploading it to Google Maps, and designing analog maps, making it accessible for anyone to use and build upon. This installation invites audiences to explore the transit data from these cities and, in doing so, highlights how democratizing data can foster empowerment and participation.
