One thing about me is that I absolutely LOVE supporting small businesses and it's the exact reason I pivoted into becoming a brand designer nearly a decade ago. I'm always looking for ways to offer support and promote the really awesome people I'm privileged to work with. For years I have wanted to put together a little Gift Guide for the holidays featuring these incredible products that hit my desk. And I finally made it happen this year. A fun little backstory: when I was in high school, my dream was to work at a magazine in the accessories department showcasing the latest trends. And well, we all know what happened to Magazines... Not all is lost, though. I firmly believe that print is going to have a resurgence and come back with a vengeance, Im already seeing a lot of signs to support this. We're all looking for human connection and OFFLINE tangible items. ESPECIALLY GEN-Z! With that said, my 2026 Holiday Gift Guide is packed full of people I fully back and support. I've put everything in there from self-care products to original artwork to consumables. I actually hope to grow this into a much bigger production in the coming years...perhaps even a fully printed magazine version? Just putting that out there. Please enjoy the guide, head to the link in my bio to download a free copy. Thank you for supporting small businesses! This Wednesday I got to attend the first ever Adobe Creative Retreat in Vancouver! (Special shoutout to @katrinaowenspr for getting me the invite!) The room was a big mix of Vancouver’s creative community: top agency owners, freelancers, large corporations and students from the 3 top design schools. The conversations were honest, raw and thought provoking, and a huge part of the day was about AI and what it means for our industry, our work and how we all feel about it. I got to meet a lot of really talented and interesting people as well, shoutout to all my new friends! A couple things that stuck with me: We all believe design should be human made, including initial concepts. But AI can be great for the repetitive stuff, like testing colour combinations once you’ve chosen a palette, or making mockups. I’ve been known to spend a day or two on mockups alone, so that’s huge for me. Big corporations are embracing ai for their design teams…with a lot of perimeters and RULES. Since I do not work at a large agency and have never worked on an internal design team at a corporation this was especially interesting to me. I won’t share more details out of respect for privacy, but it seems like some of the ‘big names’ in Vancouver are taking a very practical and ethical approach to how they use ai internally and that made me happy to hear. The overall consensus? Nobody knows what’s next, not even Adobe! We’re all keeping an open mind. by @amidemelo
Last month I went to the Adobe Create Vancouver event, this was my first time going to the create series. we were shown a full tutorial/demo on some new product features and then we had ~45 mins to create a brief and design an entire brand. There were about 150 designers in the room and 6 winners...and ya girl was one of them! 🎉 I had such a great time and met some other really cool designers...cheers to next year! by @amidemelo
Meeting Ami was purely serendipitous and she turned out to be the most amazing person to work with on such a special project. We continue to work together as two creatives with a similar vision - to share our oracle deck, and let the eternal wisdom of the forest connect with people who are open to her messages. Special thanks to @phoenixrisingemporium for giving us space to meet people on a perfect Saturday in Langley at the magnificent #artsalivelangley festival. #oraclecreator #oraclecards #forest by @amidemelo
I may be quiet on social media lately but I am busy IRL. I've been working on TONS of incredible projects and out in the community. Last night I attended the second event for Langley Chamber’s Asia Pacific Business Network. It was a Business Panel & Networking Night, we got to hear the entrepreneurial stories from local businesses including @jjbakescompany, @mokoshbeautyandlaser and @anindianaffair This was also my first time at @langleymyst and I will definitely be back for more fried squid and to try other options on the menu. by @amidemelo
Here's a fun one and something a little different than usual... Introducing the FOREST WISDOM ORACLE DECK Over 2 years in the making @woodlandelementals and I have been working on a BC Forest Themed Oracle Deck....and IT'S COMPLETE! While I'm sharing mockups in this post, I have a physical copy sitting on my desk, I just haven't had time for proper photos and videos, but I didn't want to stall putting SOMETHING up about this project because I am so happy its now in real form. Gabriele thoughtfully wrote (and reworte) every word with full intention and I helped bring that intent to life through visuals as seen throughout the deck. The deck features 56 unique cards packaged in a lush forest green pouch and a full guidebook within a custom box. Available for purchase NOW online at woodlandelementals.ca OR in store at Phoenix Rising Langley (More stores to come!) I promise more posts to come, because this one absolutely does not sell its essence the way I want it too. by @amidemelo
It is so rare that I jump on a trending social post, but this one was to good to pass up. Right now a ton of designers are posting some of their favourite logo marks they've created. I added in a few full logos, especially ones that I hand drew (wild shore) and a few illustration based marks used in logos. This was fun to go back through some projects and see things I've worked on over the years (that possibly I forgot a little bit). Hope you enjoy these! #logowave #logoarchivetrend #logos #logo @logoarchive @logoarchive.now by @amidemelo
Introducing the First Look of @pegasoleofficial !! Pegasole is a Vancouver Based, Nurse Owned, Medical Grade Sock Company (Yep, that means 80-100% coverage through most extended benefits!) you can shop at pegasole.com I am OBSESSED with how this project turned out - the logo is modern and clean (my typical style) but we used a blast of colours to really bring personality to the brand. The compression socks come in 4 different fabrics (right now) and feature patterns also design by fellow Nurses (and some plain colours If funky patterns aren't your thing)! Many more styles to drop soon. We're still working on design for this project - tradeshow setup, brochures and more. I always say this (and I always mean it), but definitely one of my favourite projects to date! I think I end up loving nearly all of my projects because I really get to know my clients, their business, their goals and dreams and It feels so connected. Cheers to PEGASOLE launching! I can't wait to watch this company grow! Brand + Logo Designer: Me Website: @laurelbrownmedia Brand Photographer: @kindredbrandimagery #branddesigner by @amidemelo
Walmart rebranded 10k products...IN THIS ECONOMY? This post highlights my thoughts on the topic and shows off the new re-brand. However you can find a longer form blog about this on my website (link in bio) and under "articles" If you need help strategizing your next move, let's chat. Sometimes visual refresh is all you need, other times like walmart, its a overhaul. #branddesigner by @amidemelo
Last week's @langleychamber Next-Gen event was one for the books! 🙌 We joined forces with the Abbotsford Chamber for a wildly busy night — 70+ people, great energy, and incredible food at Amichi Italian Wine Bar (seriously, go there). As a committee member, nights like this are why I love what we do. That first pic? That's almost the full crew from both committees, not bad! Next time though... you're coming to Langley. 😄 See you at the next one! by @amidemelo
Its easy to make a website look good, but making it look good is just the beginning... Conversion happens when you start with a strong strategic brand identity created for your goals, target market, niche and so forth. I build effective visual communication, not just logos and pretty colour pallets. I work with founders ready for that next stage. Ready for growth. Together we create a brand your truly proud to show off. Interested in seeing what it looks like to work with me? DM for a direct link to my schedule and let's have a complimentary 15min call. Kayla is a past client of mine and this year we got to work together again! She's a registered social worker, expressive arts therapist and mother of two...and she helps millennial moms close some of those open tabs and reconnect with themselves. She's bold, authentic and expressive so we wanted to refresh the colour palette to reflect just that (let's be honest, it was already bold before but we refined it). We recreated some logo options that would work with where she is now in her business. Her focus has shifted a little so we needed to hone in on that. We overhauled and strategized her business cards to be bright and bold and help her stand out on a shelf or at an event. We kept the original lilly illustrations I created, but we're using them in new ways. The best refreshes don't erase what came before. They just make it more *now*. I love figuring that puzzle out. If your brand has grown but your visuals haven't caught up yet you might just need a refresh, not a rebrand. by @amidemelo
