every fourth of july, the porch in sterling turns into a communal center.

what started with a few slingshots and some homemade targets has slowly become a tradition. every year, a new tournament. every year, new targets. every year, the champion takes home the prizes until someone else earns them the following summer.

but the best part never changes.

the porch fills with laughter. kids and grandparents compete side by side. for a few hours, time slows down. everyone belongs. everyone is welcomed.

because for a few hours, this old porch feels like the kind of place we were made for.

tell me this isn’t a glimpse of heaven.
