Obelisk for wildlife 🐦 🐞 🐜

I had a spare metal obelisk that wasn't being put to use, so I decided to upgrade my "twigwam" game and fill it with prunings and a little roosting pocket to make a nature friendly feature 💚
It's a great idea for anyone who hasn't got room for a deadhedge but wants to encourage more biodiversity into their space and somewhere to put some clippings to good use!
When you don't have much ground space- reach for the sky instead! by @amyswildscape

The pond edges are coming together...
I started planting today, here's a Calamintha nepeta amongst the rocks.
The sunniest and elevated side of the pond will have a small gravel garden feel as lots of rubble and stones will create lots of opportunities for wildlife to hide and shelter, whilst also creating the free draining conditions lots of drought tolerant plants will love. by @amyswildscape

HOMES TO LET 🏡

Pondering 💚
I've been dreaming of a larger pond for so many years...
After a couple of little ponds and lots of container ponds in my previous gardens (and even in this one too!), I've finally got a larger garden that can accommodate a pond of medium proportions. It may not be massive, I definitely don't need a boat to cross it 😂 (unfortunately!) but it's going to be an absolute asset to our gardens biodiversity! I've been filling it with materials to create lots of nooks and crannies, places for birds to bath, hedgehogs to enter safely, dragonflies to perch, newts to hide... Even the bats in our attic are going to love this addition and the Increase in insect life it'll bring.
I've got a little more work to do before it's finished so watch this space... 💚
It's been a lot of hard work but it's already so worth it.

Make space for a pond, even a tiny one, you won't regret it! by @amyswildscape

This Malus Evereste has only been in the ground just over a year and has required minimal attention from me all Summer...to be honest I actually forgot to baby this one at all- as it's been looking rather content, tucked away in a partially shaded corner. It's even created an abundance of gorgeous crab apples that are signalling Autumn.

Something i'm taking away from this harsh summer is that all the members of the Malus genus in my garden have seemed content this year with small infrequent waterings here and there- thats despite all being in the ground for around a year, some a little more and some less! (Hence still offering a little additional water!)

💡 So before you go rushing out to buy non-native trees for our changing climate, why not look to the natives that have coped remarkably well?
Native trees will always offer more for our native wildlife as they have co-evolved alongside each other. They provide essential food, shelter and support our myriad of specialised native insects💚💡 by @amyswildscape

Just like everyone else.. I'm making a few alterations to my planting going forward to prepare for hotter summers and persistent drought... *Sigh*
I already have free-draining soil so drought tolerant choices are definitely the most suitable for my sandy garden (and despite being fully aware of this I've still tried a few of my beloved moisture lovers since moving here and of course they've been failing miserably! Goodbye hydrangeas!😭) but it's a good excuse to plant more hylotelephium in the borders...what a TOUGH AS OLD BOOTS staple it is and it really shines at this time of year, when many herbaceous perennials are looking crispy and tired, hylotelephium rocks up to the party, having quietly waited in the wings all summer, looking fresh, juicy and ready to fulfil its bee buffet potential.
What's more it holds an amazing form all winter too! by @amyswildscape

She's perfect, shes wild, she produces the most beautiful trusses of teeny weeny- super sweet- pop in the mouth and never make it to the kitchen- red currant tomatoes 🍅

She literally grows massive and sprawls everywhere- I've been a bit mean with the hacking back, but with minimal water and my tough love attitude, she's still rewarding me with an unstoppable mass...! I love this tomato so much so she's making the grid 🍅 ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

If tomatoes grew in sweet shops...

I do love growing, eating and gifting my own fruit and veggies but this year has been super challenging...
Late frosts, drought and scorching temperatures... I'm honestly a little fed up of gardening this year already... Then I get myself a dinner basket like this and I think, maybe this full time job in watering is still worth while?
I can't be alone, this year is a tough n rough one! 🤣 by @amyswildscape
