What really matters is not the picture, but what it represents: a dream.

A barrister’s robe isn’t just a piece of clothing. It represents the realisation of a dream that, for some of us, takes years of work, sacrifice and perseverance. It represents the days and nights spent studying, the uncertainty, the moments of self-doubt, and the decision to keep going despite them all.

There are moments in life that time can never fade, moments you carry with you for years, reminding you where you started, how hard you worked and how deeply you dreamed.

Over time, you come to understand that this profession is about so much more than law, case files and courtrooms. It is about people. It is about tears and hope, families searching for peace, parents fighting for their children, and people placing their trust in your hands, looking to you not only for legal knowledge, but also for support, empathy and courage.

I am grateful for the privilege of working towards being called to the Bar and, one day, having the opportunity to practise the profession I have dreamed of for so long, to do every day something that I truly love.

Perhaps that is why a barrister’s robe can become one of the most precious garments a person will ever wear, not because of what it represents in the eyes of others, but because of everything they had to become, overcome and persevere through in order to earn the privilege of wearing it.

So, no, the picture is not what really matters. It is the symbol behind it: a dream, the journey towards it, and the quiet determination to make it a reality. ⚖️👩🏻‍⚖️ by @anasimonaisip
