Big thanks to Johan Vikner @wikner for including us in this travelling exhibition and for the lovely experience at its first opening in Stockholm.

If a Flower Bloomed in a Dark Room, Would You Trust It? is shortlisted for the Paris Photo–Aperture First Book Award 2026🎈 @aperturefnd @parisphotofair

Making this book has been such a wild ride… We pitched the idea without a single photograph, raised funds (still pretty much without a photo), spent countless days researching TikTok, archiving and organising thousands of videos, developed an extremely nerdy macro bellows system to photograph our screens, and most of all, produced new images throughout the entire editing and design process. Immense thanks to the team for your contributions, as well as your patience and trust in this work.🤍

An immense thank you to collection curator Janna Eisenbeis, to Sophie-Charlotte Opitz for the nomination, as well as to the jury members Stefan Gronert, Matthias Harder, and Ute Noll for this recognition. @photogra__phi @ute_noll_visual_projects @stefan_gronert by @anazibelnik

From today on, it’s all back to the usual schedule. Posting this from a train to Stuttgart, from where we’ll continue to Frankfurt, then to Helsinki, back to Hamburg, and from there to Stockholm, all before we’re back in Den Haag in mid-October.

So here’s one last post to remember the work-free summer and all the lovely moments with our families. Our brother and sister in law call the formal part of a wedding a “tax union,” but evidently, it turned out to be quite emotional.🥲♥️

Got married on Vis Island, with our German, Slovene & Dutch family and friends by our side. Couldn’t have wished for more than celebrating with a good swim, a glass of vugava, and the people who made us who we are.

Incredibly grateful to everyone for coming all the way to Croatia, to our families for making it possible, to our ceremony master @strategic.vegetables for officiating, @startinvis for all your help with the planning, @bilka_vis and @kusaonarokis for the amazing food & wine, and @nileceramics for the most wonderful handmade ceramics.

@anazibelnik and @jakob_ganslmeier examine how TikTok fitness trends glorify a 1939 fascist warrior statue to promote extreme physical perfection and foster right-wing ideological shifts.

As photography students, we both read a lot of Abigail Solomon-Godeau’s texts, so it was an incredible honour to chat with her about our work.💛Thank you, @n.la.gg.nb.rg.r by @anazibelnik

NEW IN: If a Flower Bloomed in a Dark Room, Would You Trust It? Repeat After Me / Bereitschaft, Jakob Ganslmeier & Ana Zibelnik

If a Flower Bloomed in a Dark Room, Would You Trust It? follows the online rabbit holes developing from two mainstream social media trends related to self-improvement: fitness and spirituality. The converging narratives—‘Repeat After Me’ and ‘Bereitschaft’ explore radicalization from the perspectives of the body and the spirit as they are amplified by platforms like TikTok: on the one hand, the militaristic pursuit of physical perfection, as reflected in the popularization among young boys of Arno Breker’s 1939 statue Bereitschaft; on the other, the quest for spiritual awakening and the attempt to rise above societal structures, combined with the belief in being the “chosen one.” The book builds on extensive visual research into the image rhetorics used by far-right political groups online, especially those employing positive visual language to convey hate messages.

Jakob Ganslmeier and Ana Zibelnik are an artist duo who collaborate on photography and video projects that center on the creation of youth identity, particularly the influence of extreme ideologies on young people. Elisa Medde is a photography editor, curator and writer. Between 2012–23, she served as Editor-in-Chief of Foam Magazine. In 2023 she received the Royal Photographic Society Award for outstanding achievement in photographic publishing.
