Congratulations to Julian and @dmhssusd class of 2024! We are so proud of Julian. ❤️🎉 He is on to @embry_riddle_prescott where he will be a soccer student athlete. He is majoring in applied biology. The future is bright! by @andrea_conner_

The high school soccer cleats are hung up and 2 award banquets concluded. Congrats to Julian for his All District Award and for being named Desert Mountain’s “Offensive Player of the Year”.
He finished the season with 10 goals & 8 assists.
The All District award took into consideration leadership, service, & work in the classroom. He has worked hard to have a 4.5 GPA 🎉! Julian has committed to Embry Riddle where he will be playing soccer and studying applied biology. Eventually, he hopes to become an anesthesiologist.
I’m looking forward to seeing what the future holds for this kiddo.
Congrats also go out to Becker Teusch (DM goalie) for his All District Award! by @andrea_conner_

Julian’s Soccer Senior Night! It’s a bittersweet time since he will be going off to college soon. I’m sure all empty nesters (or soon to be empty nesters) can relate! Julian is a captain this year and has put in the work on the field. He has been more physical, attacking minded, and willing to try new things out there. His confidence has grown. Julian has been a top goal scorer for the Desert Mountain Wolves. The team won their first playoff game last night 3-0 with Julian scoring 2 of the goals! Go Wolves! #soccermom #seniornight #leftfooted #midfielder #kingjulian #11 #seasonpics #proudmama by @andrea_conner_

A Mediterranean dietary pattern is associated with lower risk of Type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, some cancers, and dementia. Picture above is a homemade example of a Mediterranean type of meal. Best if all, it took about 15 min to prepare and it tasted delicious! I also had a handful of black grapes with this meal. Next time, I would add slivered almonds to the wild rice (for increased heart healthy fat & for satiety). “I’m a stress eater” is a comment I hear often from patients/clients. There is hope and ways to change this behavior! First, cease labeling yourself as a “stress eater”. Everything we do starts with a thought. The stress eater label doesn’t give yourself space or opportunity for improvement. Consider trying a different type of statement. Example, “I used to eat for stress relief, but now I’m changing my ways”. Second, develop a game plan for healthy coping strategies that you could turn to in stressful times. Examples-a hobby, music, bubble bath, talking to friends, getting out in nature, keeping hands busy (knitting, crosswords). Remember, this is a practice and habits can be changed, modified, replaced!!!

It’s salad season! Everything is so fresh and yummy. Did you know that getting consistently 5 servings of produce a day (compared to those eating on 2 servings a day)is associated with
-a 12% lower risk of having a heart attack or stroke
-a 10% lower risk of death from cancer
-a 13% lower risk of mortality
-a 35% lower risk of death from respiratory disease?
A serving is 1 tennis ball size fruit or 1/2 c fruit, 1/2 c cooked vegetables or 1 c leafy greens
