“Born by the River” is part of the “Beauties of Hollywood Boulevard” show that’s opening Thursday, October 8, 6-9p at @outfitterswig located at 6626 Hollywood Boulevard. Thank you to @lindakayepoetry and @anna.p.sutton for curating, and for @arroyoartscollective and @lacountyarts for their sponsorship. If you come out, expect live performances and 22 different artists, all with unique perspectives on beauty on this famous boulevard. If you want the back story on the name I picked for the piece, come to the show, please, and know that if you buy her, or any of the other pieces in the show, you’re supporting the Arroyo Arts Collective, Outfitters Wig, and me. Small business and the arts 🥰, so that’s pretty good, don’t you think? #bornbytheriver #wig #beauty #fashion #losangelesartist #hollywoodboulevard by @andreabogdanartist

I finally painted a ukulele! So fun ❤️❤️❤️. Thankfully, I got photos before I started, or else I’m not sure I would have known how to put the strap back on. There were only two other times that I freestyled a painting and had to pause a long time before starting. Once was in painting Dr. Martins boots for somebody who WORKED for Dr. Martins… that was a big “event” for me, artistically, because I knew she could have chosen any number of artists who already worked for Dr. Martins. I used the owner’s tattoos for inspiration. Another time was in painting a VERY large piece (I kept thinking “this is an awful lot of paint and canvas and time to put into something that I’ve NO idea what it will become”). I used the rural outdoors for inspiration. And this ukulele is the third time I had to really pause before beginning. I stared at it for two days before I touched it, knowing that this was something she would use for creative expression. Two days may not seem like a long time, but my space is small, so I have to keep stuff moving off my table ☺️. Anyway, I used the owner’s smile for inspiration, and in some unexplainable way, I think it’s exactly right. The last photo in this grouping shows the first coat of paint that went on after the primer coat. So you can see how the painting process started. Right now there are nine pieces in progress on or under my table, so it will be a fantastic week of finishing stuff. Have beautiful Monday! #ukelele #acustico #acoustic #freestyle by @andreabogdanartist

“It is not true that people stop pursuing dreams because they grow old, they grow old because they stop pursuing dreams.” A quote by writer Gabriel Jose Garcia Marquez. I started making this mobile in 2021 after I read “Love in the Time of Cholera”, a wonderful and poignant book by him. And I finally finished the mobile today, 4 1/2 years later! Some freestyling just takes longer. 🥳🥰☺️ #mobile #losangelesartist #animal #dream #gabrielgarcíamárquez by @andreabogdanartist

This one’s called “Conflagration of Effort”, which I was SO sure was pronounced “con-FLAG-er-a-shun”, but when I typed the title, spellcheck told me otherwise… hmph. As you may know, I freestyle everything, and this was to be the first in a series of three. I found it so disturbing that I put it down for a few days, not wanting to finish it, let alone do two more. Initially, this was made for someone specific who chose not to take it, and who would blame them, really. I probably cheated myself by not going the distance, so I’m going to continue. 🔥🔥🔥 So far, the coolest question a visitor has asked me about this painting was “What’s in the left hand??” And the most eye-opening comment was “This person has not only set fire to her entire past, but to her future, too!” At which point I said, “She’s definitely trying too hard.” And that’s how I got the name. 😊 #try #losangelesartist #dtla #fire #artstudio #andreabogdan by @andreabogdanartist

This one’s called “Many Moons Ago”. I freestyle all my work, so whenever I finish something, I think “what is this?”, then I talk to myself about it. In this case, I said, “huh, look at those moons. There are so many moons…” and that’s how it got its name. It looks crooked in this video, but actually, it’s not crooked. The table is crooked. The lamp is covered in resin, which caused a few, bumpy, drippy thingies on the lamp shade, but I quite like it. The light bulb is little, like those candle-flame shaped bulbs, and it’s got some paint smeared on the bulb, so I never would properly display this, thinking I should buy a shiny new bulb first. But that was months ago, and I still have not bought a bulb. L’ennemi du bien est le bien, as they say. Perfection is the enemy of good. 🥸😎😋 #lamp #rabbit #farm #custom #losangelesartist #moon by @andreabogdanartist

It’s Loteria time again at @cactusgallery 🥳🤩 Hooray! And this time I’ve done EL CATRIN, with a special twist on the hat and tux, and some other stuff. 🦓🎩 I hope you’ll check out their website, because new Loteria cards are being added all the time. I’ve got one more Loteria card to finish … and it’s going to be El Auto 👏👏👏 and I bet you’ll never guess how it’s going to go. But I can assure you, EL CATRIN would look very stylish with El Auto, which will be spacey, just like El Avion. Here we goooo …. ❤️❤️❤️ #elcatrin #tuxedo #stripes #hat #loteria #losangelesartist by @andreabogdanartist

Yes, I’m still making mobiles out of cardboard. 🥰 This one is for @cactusgallery because one of my favorite shows, the Loteria Show, is coming up and one of the cards I picked is El Avion. And THIS is my interpretation 🚀🛸👽 . #ufo #elavion #loteria #cactusgalleryla #cardboard #spaceship by @andreabogdanartist

I love that this mom and daughter came in and got “matching hats” from me…. THEIR animals! I freestyle everything, so I never know from one day to the next which way the art will go 😎. Who knew these hats were actually made just for THEM ❤️❤️❤️?! It makes me happy that some visitors come from so far away, and that family come together, and so many people bring out-of-town visitors to @lastbookstorela and to my little workspace. There’s so much wonderful art and interesting stores in my hallway on the Mez, and lovely people coming to explore… I’m never without inspiration here. Tomorrow I’m working on hats, hats, hats for Father’s Day and for graduation gifts. Who knows what they’ll look like. You’ll have to come by to find out 🥳🤩🥰. by @andreabogdanartist
