A lovely mention for WAR in @the.scotsman’s recent round-up of autumn releases. by @andrewdonkin

More books from @artbubblefestival.

@giovannirigano is not yet published in 🇩🇰. I hope that his visit to Art Bubble changes that. Illegal - a book he drew about the struggles of people looking for a better future is a much needed reminder for people who don’t realize what other human beings go through just to be classified as illegal immigrants.

I have yet to read War and Weekly, but I want to say Grazie Mille to Giovanni and the writers behind Illegal, Global and War for tackling difficult and highly relevant subject matters.
These books should be mandatory reading. Not just in schools but in general. by @andrewdonkin

War by @eoincolfer , @andrewdonkin , illustrated by @giovannirigano and Published by @hachettechildrens

From the awarding winning team behind Illegal and Global comes a powerful and timely graphic novel about War

14 year old Kat has her life completely turned upside down when her city is invaded by a foreign army. Her family are reluctantly having to flee, but her dad is taken without charge.
Kat decides to risk everything and stay behind to try and get him out.

On a different note side to the story, Adam is a young conscript who is struggling to understand why he is fighting. Their paths collide, but can Kat trust him?

My eldest was touched by this story - he thought it was moving and extremely powerful - it kept him on the edge of his seat. He also loved how the story was told from different perspectives.

The story explores trust, courageous and the impact of conflict, this is definitely aimed at 10+

Thank you @hachettechildrens for our copy.

One of the great pleasures of making graphic novels is seeing a scene you have lived with in words suddenly come alive on the page.

Here is my long-time collaborator and friend Giovanni Rigano working his magic on one of my favourite scenes from WAR.

We have been making books together for a long time now, and I still love watching the process. There is always that moment when the artwork becomes something more than you imagined, and continues to dazzle @andrewdonkin and I, like those fireworks.

WAR, created with Andrew Donkin and Giovanni Rigano, is out now, and is the third in our series, following ILLEGAL (2017) and GLOBAL (2023).

Hope you enjoy this little glimpse behind the curtain. by @andrewdonkin

Graphic novel ✅
Edge of your seat reading ✅
Gripping, powerful and sadly rooted in reality ✅

This gripping graphic novel for older readers really got me.

For 14 year old Kat, life has been turned upside down. Families are torn apart, foreign armies arrive, portions of soup get smaller and smaller and people are forced to flee the places they once called home. This is her new reality.

Then there’s Adam, an opposition conscript who is struggling to understand why he’s been ordered to fight in a war he doesn’t really understand. When their paths cross, Kat is faced with a huge question: can she trust him? And can she find her father?

A tense, thought provoking read that explores war, courage, trust and the human cost of conflict through a gripping graphic novel format.

Perfect for readers aged 10+ who love a comic style read and want something that will keep them turning the pages.

Late to the party posting this, but last month I took a flight on Air Scotia for a flying visit to Aberdeen to see The High Life - the Musical. Loved the BBC sit com in the 90s and had to see it. Fantastic show that had the audience on its feet for a standing ovation at the end. Cabin crew caps off to @alancummingreally and @forbesmasson Siobhan Redmond, and Patrick Ryecant - the original cast members who are once more living #thehighlife It has come to the end of its tour of Scotland now but maybe one day it’ll transfer down saff. I hope so. Photos: 1-6 Living the High Life. 7-16 the area in and around Union Terrace Gardens. 17 - Geocache hidden at the back of the theatre 18 - next morning brunch at the Wild Goose @wildgooseabz which was fab My thanks to @stellapgoyle for putting up with Air Scotia’s in-flight cabin baggage restrictions with me. “Oh dearie me!” A really great night out with loads and loads of laughs, great songs, and a great young supporting cast. Ten out of ten. No notes. Would fly again. #aberdeen #thehighlifemusical #alancumming #forbesmason by @andrewdonkin
