It’s been the busiest but most rewarding month. Saw 2/3 of the Triple Crown races, lead an event, and helped my mom scratch something of her bucket list. by @angelinejeffer.son

I turned 30 years old 30+ days ago.

I’ve been reflecting a lot on my life. In my short time on this earth, I’ve experienced a lot of loss. Loss of family, friends, sense of home, even sense of self.

And I’m grateful to say I’ve never felt a loss of love. Thank you to everyone for the well wishes, every call and text. It’s a lot for me to take in that I’m a person who receives this kind of love. My prayer for this year is that I continue to live a life where loss may happen but love is always felt. And that love is what drives me.

After all, I was born on Good Friday. So I’ve been blessed my whole life. by @angelinejeffer.son

Writing this from Lisbon with love 💕 by @angelinejeffer.son

“The day I unzipped my suitcase at Howard, I met Bola”

“You ever meet someone and knew they’d change the world?”

“Bola was special”

I’ve started to write about you so many different times in so many different ways. None of it seems sufficient. Or maybe it just seems surreal.

Olubola Olusanya was one of the greatest people I’ve ever known. A designer, a creator, an accountant somehow lol. A supporter, a leader, and encourager. A friend.

We used to talk all the time about who would do what first on our line. We all knew Bola would be famous. And she is. A starter of businesses, brands, movements that made it to international spotlights.

Bola was sweet and calm and kind and soft spoken. But don’t get it twisted. There was a power to Bola. A light that she shown because she knew what was important. Bola didn’t shrink and you couldn’t shrink around her. She’d never let you.

Bola, thank you for showing us what fearlessness looks like. What walking in your purpose looks. That being a leader means you serve, give voice and opportunity to those who may not see it in themselves or know where to look.

It was a privilege to share so much time and make so many memories with you. Rest well.

I hope you honored the love you currently have in your life instead of begrudging the love that’s on the way.

Today, I honored the first unconditional love I’ve had in my life. My father died 13 years ago last December. My mom gave me a clipping from a plant from his funeral that she’s kept alive for thirteen long years. It’s seen multiple states + house, technological advancements + grand globalization, recessions, impeachments + a pandemic or two. It’s been to the brink but always bounced back. If that’s not care, patience + love, I don’t know what is.

Now it’s mine to care for, prune, tend to. And love. Happy + grateful to have a little bit of his memory in my home.

Happy Valentine’s Day from me + my forever Valentine ❤️ by @angelinejeffer.son

It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood, America.

We have a vision for this country. We didn’t allow ourselves to be derailed by a narcissistic, wildly unqualified (illiterate?) bigoted grifter. We did not allow ourselves to be jettisoned back into the dark ages.

I had the distinct honor of working on a team fighting to take back the Senate from the legislative Crypt Keeper. While we’re still in our fight, America has spoken. We deserved better so we demanded better.

Thank you to everyone who fought to keep moving America forward. Thank you for every meeting you took, every phone call you made, every voter you contacted. Thank you for giving it your all. And when all we could was vote- you fucking voted!

Thank you for prioritizing democracy and decency. Thank you for protecting the least protected. Thank you for your vote. by @angelinejeffer.son

MOOD4EVA 1/X by @angelinejeffer.son

I’ve never believed in allies. I’ve never put much stake in allyship. Because I’ve never seen it.

When I was at at the Neshoba County Fair in MS, we heard a group of White boys shout they “should’ve brought their nigger too,” no one said anything.
When I was interning at Chrysler in Michigan, a group of Black interns took a road trip to a lake. The plan was to BBQ and enjoy the weekend. A car drove past as we were unloading and called us “porch monkeys.” No one said anything.
When I was riding home with a White friend from high school and another of her friends and she pointed to two men fighting and exclaimed “Oh no! Look! Those niggers are fighting.” Her friend seemed shocked. Not that she said it but that she said it in my presence. Without turning to me in the back seat she said, “Well not Angeline. But you know what I mean.” Everyone who should’ve said something- didn’t. Everyone who could’ve done something - didn’t. Instead I was met with downward glances, averted eyes. They seemed uncomfortable. But not sorry. Certainly never concerned.
Thankfully, that’s not my today. I am grateful to see what real allyship looks like. And it’s not posting #BLM or sending a FB message to your 6th grade science partner telling them “you see them” (sidebar: she isn’t the “black friend” they said to check on. You might just not have any 🤷🏾‍♀️). It’s checking your privilege and lending your voice (when appropriate) or your body or your time or your money to give a fuck about people you don’t look like you. People who don’t live like you. People who pray differently than you do or to a different God entirely.

I hope it continues. And that when the dust settles, and the hashtags and black boxes and dead Black bodies disappear from your timeline that BLACK LIVES STILL MATTER over there like they do over here. ✊🏾💕 by @angelinejeffer.son
