✍️ looooving these new velvet inks from @amacobrent !!! I scored a couple of these and finally got a chance to use them in the new year 🥰 It was time for a refresh on my underglaze transfers, what better time to try out some of the new colors like this VI-74 Hunter Green!! 😍 I can’t wait to see how they turn out in the soda kiln next month! Here’s a quick walkthrough on how I print my screens. ⤵️ 1. using @ezscreenprint screens that I designed and burned, I’m printing with the text backwards so it transfers properly when I transfer them to my pots at bone dry! 2. I’m printing on rice paper, texture side up, which holds the ink better than the smooth side. 3. Make sure the ink is pasty but not too liquidy! Otherwise your ink won’t pass through the screen, or the design will have smears if too wet. 4. Let the sheet fully dry before you cut them up and use them! ❣️ Might be time for a new screen design this year 👀 we’ll see! #ceramics #clay #screenprinting #ezscreenprint #howiamaco #underglazetransfer #ceramicsofinstagram #ceramicart by @anikamajor
Druuuummmroooollll .. as we introduce the wonderful Anika Major and her stunning figurative paintings. Anika creates her work out in her Georgetown studio full time, while managing operations at Rain City Clay. Over at dirt folk HQ we describe her pieces as colorful portraits that portray stylized human figures, drawn with expressive lines and vivid colors. Through Anika’s own experiences as a born and raised Texan, she discusses her thoughts of queer joy in the rodeo industry & American western culture. Anika’s overall style combines elements of illustration and expressive figuration. Very much reminding us of comic or graphic novel aesthetics with a western story line. Anika’s firing technique of choice; soda firing gives her pieces this feeling of warmth. We enjoy how the marks the kiln makes, add to her characters identity’s and create an overall emotional undertone. Anika’s work will be one to not miss on March 27th!!! Look in the comments below for Anika’s Artist Statement to understand her thought process a bit more! Happy Monday! 🫶🫶 Dirt Folks by @anikamajor
