Just because something is tradition doesn’t mean it should be beyond question. And questioning it doesn’t mean disrespecting a faith.

Compassion is not an attack on culture. It is an invitation to grow, to reflect, and to choose kindness.

No tradition should be so sacred that compassion becomes forbidden. by @animal_nepal

Today, November 3rd, is One Health Day, an annual global observance that highlights the interconnectedness of people, animals, plants, and their shared environment.

Snow Leopard Conservancy’s One Health – One Welfare initiative is improving animal and human health in Nepal’s remote mountain communities through access to veterinary care, education, and training in the Manang District of Annapurna Conservation Area.

By reducing transmissible diseases and human-wildlife conflict, we are simultaneously protecting snow leopards while supporting the livelihoods of locals, the well-being of domestic animals and wildlife, and the vulnerable ecosystems they all call home.

This short documentary explores our lifesaving work, undertaken in collaboration with our partners: International Veterinary Outreach, Animal Nepal, and Mountain Spirit.

Learning to Rescue, Respect and Protect!

Today, Animal Nepal team members participated in a Snake Rescue Training in Kirtipur Municipality, facilitated by Mr. Kamal Devkota of Save the Lives Society and Mr. Subodh Acharya of the Division Forest Office, Kathmandu.

The training focused on the ethical rescue and safe handling of snakes, emphasizing the importance of understanding, respecting and protecting these often-misunderstood creatures.

Participants also had the opportunity to observe a live Himalayan Trinket snake that had recently been rescued from Pharping and is awaiting release back into its natural habitat.

What made this training particularly special was the commitment to animal welfare: the sessions are scheduled only when a rescued snake is available. No snakes are kept in captivity or captured specifically for training purposes.

At Animal Nepal, we believe that learning to coexist with wildlife begins with knowledge, compassion and respect.

Rescue with care. Handle with responsibility. Let wildlife remain wild. 💚🐍
