Tara made it out of Ridglan. 16,000 beagles at Marshall BioResources are still waiting.

Today, as dozens continue a 207-mile March for Animals in New York, Congress stepped up by introducing the COMPACT Act to cut federal funding for dog and cat experiments.

No market, no Marshall - and freedom for the dogs and cats.

The plan is simple: kill an owl, get a credit, cut down a 1,000-year-old tree.

The claim: the government says eliminating 450,000 barred owls will save the endangered spotted owl.

The reality: it was never about saving owls. Every dead barred owl becomes a credit Big Timber cashes in to log the last 10% of old growth forest left standing.

Kill an owl. Get a credit. Log the forest. That’s the whole scam.

Fighting for the New York horses! Today, the New York City Council held a hearing on Romanch’s Law. If passed, it would phase out horse drawn carriages in Central Park by 2028. At the conclusion of the hearing, the bill picked up four additional sponsors, meaning the majority of the Council now favors it. But, the fight is not over. We have to keep showing up. by @animalwellnessaction

We won in Colorado! You were the voice of the voiceless. By a LARGE margin, Colorado voters said NO to Amendment 83, because of the hard work of so many. by @animalwellnessaction

🚨🐺 COLORADO: ELECTION DAY IS TOMORROW, NOVEMBER 3! KNOW WHAT’S AT STAKE WITH AMENDMENT 83.

Amendment 83 would establish a constitutional right to hunt and fish using “traditional methods,” while making hunting and fishing the state’s preferred means of wildlife management. 💔

The amendment’s broad language could pave the way for legal challenges to existing protections against practices like bear baiting, steel-jaw trapping, and hound hunting.
Future wildlife protections could face additional constitutional challenges.

A YES vote would establish the new constitutional right. A NO vote would maintain the current legal framework for hunting and fishing.

🗳️ Colorado voters: Make your voice heard by November 3.

BUSTED!

On Halloween night, investigators from Animal Wellness Action and SHARK exposed a massive illegal cockfight near Itasca, Texas.

When Hill County deputies and Texas State Troopers arrived, approximately 70 participants fled the scene, leaving behind 130 gamefowl.

Thanks to swift action by law enforcement, the cockfight was shut down, and the birds were rescued.

The real monsters this Halloween weren't wearing costumes. They were turning animal suffering into entertainment.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about illegal cockfighting can contact tips@animalwellnessaction.org. by @animalwellnessaction

Moms across Colorado are voting NO on Amendment 83, and for good reason. It could bring back trapping methods Colorado voters banned in 1996. That doesn't just threaten the hunting traditions Coloradans know today. It could put steel-jaw traps and snares back on the trails where our kids and dogs play.

When I was 17, on my first trip to the Central Park Zoo, I wasn’t even aware of an animal protection movement. It’s an understatement to say what profound effect that trip had on me. Seeing animals trapped in steel cages with concrete floors, carriage horses lugging around people for pure enjoyment and money—it broke my heart and ruined the trip for my classmates, but it ignited a fire that has burned in me ever since.

Now, nearly five decades later, the tide is finally turning. Major cities like Chicago and Philadelphia have already put an end to carriage horse abuse, proving that tradition is never an excuse for cruelty.

This progress didn’t happen by accident. It came from the relentless work of thousands of advocates who, like me at 17, demanded better for animals who have no voice but ours.

I might have ruined a school trip 47 years ago by refusing to look away, but standing up for these animals was the best choice I ever made. We’ve come too far to slow down now—and we won’t stop until every carriage horse in every city is finally free.

After almost two decades of advocacy and hard work, New York City’s carriage horses will finally see freedom. City Council passed Romanch’s Law, which will end the ancient trade once it is signed by the mayor. by @animalwellnessaction

BREAKING: New York City has voted 40-7 to phase out horse-drawn carriages! 🐴

After decades of debate and advocacy, the NYC Council passed Romanch’s Law 40–7 with two abstentions. This would end the city's horse-drawn carriage industry by June 1, 2028.

The legislation also establishes a transition plan for carriage drivers and workers, while opening the door to a safer future for the horses.

Animal Wellness Action celebrates this milestone and recognizes the years of work by NYCLASS and fellow advocates who helped bring the issue before the Council.
