Fort Worth crossed my mind #kachow by @annakatemyers

What a week and what a God! I came into this week ready to serve, love, and teach these kids, but I think the city of Anáhuac and Casa taught me way more than I could have possible taught them. They taught me that pure joy doesn’t come from circumstance. They taught me to be generous by giving me bracelets (some of the only things they owned), always serving me juice at meals, offering me their snacks before they got or ate their own, and by putting their friends first and themselves last. They taught me how to have a heart of compassion because I’ve never so eagerly wanted them to be loved and blessed the way I have been. They taught me how to serve because I will never forget when one of the ninos was helping me pick up water balloons when he didn’t have to or when the others always offered to throw away my plate at meals. Lastly, the city of Anahuac showed me what real life looks like. It showed me what it looks like to walk for miles for a bag of powdered milk, beans, rice, an onion, 5 potatoes, a warm hot dog, and used clothes. It showed me what it looks like to have flies surrounding you because you weren’t able to shower or change your baby girl’s diaper. They showed me what it looks like to not feel loved or chosen because your earthly parents didn’t love or choose them. What an eye opener and joy it was to get to spend a week where the only thing I can teach them is the goodness of God. Thank you Jesus for sending us on mission this week to love others the same way you abundantly love us!

Casa de la Esperanza, I’m forever in debt to you for changing my life forever and every other person’s who comes through your gates.

“But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9 by @annakatemyers
