Very much looking forward to the 2026/27 season.

A mixture of favourite roles and new adventures, returns to some familiar venues and companies, and a few exciting debuts along the way.

Grateful to all the organisations, colleagues, and collaborators involved, and to @charlottefirth123 and @themarymot at @mwamanagement for their wonderful support.

Looking forward to getting started.

Here’s how I approach singing a top C.

This felt like a pretty good example of what people mean when they say the voice “narrows” through the transition (passaggio) between registers — and then opens out again, like an hourglass. ⏳

It’s mainly about managing pressure and staying steady through the transition — resisting the urge to muscle through it. That’s what works for me, anyway.

Curious to hear how others think about this…

For those of you who asked for the full video…

This is ‘Vado Incontro’ - from Mozart’s Mitridate.

Its huge leaps and extreme range make it a challenge even in isolation - add to that the fact that its the character’s fifth and final aria, and it’s a serious test of stamina.

As this run has been my first opportunity to perform this role, learning how to pace the evening so there’s still something left in the tank for this aria has been a key focus.

It’s not something you can fully prepare for in the practice room - performance brings its own adrenaline, energy, and surprises.

I’m really glad to have had this experience under my belt, and to take this skill forward for the next time!

Why is Mozart so difficult for tenors?

It’s a question I get asked quite often, and I think one of the biggest challenges is just how exposed everything is.

There’s nowhere to hide! Every phrase needs to be beautifully connected, the breath has to keep moving, and you need to maintain that sense of ease even when you’re working incredibly hard underneath it all.

Dies Bildnis ist bezaubernd schön from The Magic Flute is a perfect example. It’s not necessarily the most technically demanding aria in the repertoire, but the long, sustained phrases really do test your stamina.

By the time you reach the final page, your breath support is working overtime, while you’re still trying to make the whole thing sound effortless!

But when everything comes together, it’s incredibly satisfying to sing. That’s part of what makes Mozart so rewarding.

Rehearsals are underway for Britten’s The Turn of the Screw at @opera_de_lausanne!

One for the technically minded among you. I’ve been working on this particular phrase, which is a great opportunity to practise keeping the sound grounded and connected through the passaggio, without allowing everything to creep up and tighten as the phrase rises.

Easier said than done!

Three unforgettable weeks rehearsing and performing Mozart’s The Magic Flute at the @beijing_music_festival!

Singing the Second Lady alongside my husband @anthonygregorytenor as Tamino, and sharing this experience with our daughter Eloise as she makes her operatic debut as Second Spirit, made this experience indescribably special for us.

A huge thank you to our wonderful conductor Dane Lam @travellingconducto and visionary director @shuangralways, to the magical-minded designer @danpotra, to all the cast for being such lovely colleagues and so warm to our family, and to @londonphilharmonicorchestra and the @beijing_music_festival for memories that will last a lifetime! by @anthonygregorytenor

Opening night of The Magic Flute in Beijing tonight!

We’ve had such a brilliant time out here, made even more special by having the family along for the adventure. My wife @kittywhately is singing one of the Three Ladies, and our daughter is making her operatic debut as one of the Three Boys!

This will be an experience I will never forget. I’m so unbelievably proud of how my daughter has taken all of this in her stride and being able to perform with my wife is just the best!

Wishing everyone involved a fantastic opening night. Can’t wait to get out there!

Tonight we open The Magic Flute at the @beijing_music_festival and I am so tickled to be singing Second Lady with my husband @anthonygregorytenor as Tamino and to be a part of my daughter’s operatic debut as Second Spirit!

The last few weeks here have been so surreal and truly an experience I will never ever forget. In bocca al lupo tutti! by @anthonygregorytenor

Mozart has an amazing ability to make difficult things sound easy.

That’s really the challenge as a singer. There can be an enormous amount of technical work going on underneath, but hopefully the audience hears none of it and can simply enjoy the music.

A little snippet from my conversation on China Central Television (CCTV) ahead of The Magic Flute this week.

Very much looking forward to taking Tamino from the television studio to the stage with the @londonphilharmonicorchestra and @travellingconductor at the @beijing_music_festival.

A slightly unusual one last weekend…

I had the chance to sing on China Central Television (CCTV), ahead of our performances of The Magic Flute this week.

A lot of fun to take Tamino out of the rehearsal room for a moment and share a little Mozart with a rather larger audience than usual.

Now back to rehearsals, and very much looking forward to the real thing.
