I was encouraged to publish my farewell speech, and thanks to @meanjinquarterly_ for doing so. Palestine was a litmus test on many fronts ... for media, its test was whether it could uphold its journalistic integrity, report the truth fearlessly and humanise a people it had traditionally dehumanised. It failed. Palestine has also provoked a personal journey to disentangle the webs of internalised racism that in many respects dehumanised myself. by @antoun.issa

Protests have spread throughout Europe - from Paris to Lisbon, Brussels to Milan, all interlaced with a cost of greed crisis that has seen governments remain idle as billionaires and corporations hoard wealth and push down living standards. by @antoun.issa
In just less than 4 weeks on NOV 11 , join us at the @wheelercentre for a powerful conversation with Dr Bushra Othman (@bushra__othman), editor of 'The Weight of Witness', and fellow contributor Dr Saya Aziz (@dr.ce.ce), reflecting on their experiences volunteering on medical missions to Gaza. 🇵🇸 Dr Othman, the first Australian-Palestinian and Muslim Australian woman to volunteer as a surgeon in Gaza, will join fellow contributor Dr Saya Aziz and host Antoun Issa (@antoun.issa) to discuss the experiences behind the book, and what it means to bear witness, return home and tell these stories. The FINAL @ozasiafestival Weekend of Words aka Asian Homecoming will soon be here and I am so happy/sad/proud to be part of the final line up. It's a real shame that Oz Asia and Weekend of Words (also formerly known as In Other Words) won't return next year after 20 years. There's no other gathering like it of Asian-Australian writers, thinkers, creatives and readers, and it's such a loss. The timing - well - make of it what you will. So while the lights are still on - let'sdothisthing! I'm hosting two chats on Sat 24 Oct at the Adelaide Festival Centre - and they are free, baby! First - This Memoir Is Not About You with @durkhanaiayubi @nehakale @antoun.issa on writing about homelands, nostalgia, and the ache of loss. Can you ever go home again? Then - Future Ancestors with @yumichild @durkhanaiayubi. We're gonna spill our guts on the hardships that have shaped us and the wisdom - hard earned - that we've gained along the way. Because kick-ass future ancestors light the way forward. Come live, laugh love and very possibly cry with us. okthankyou, bai bai by @antoun.issa
