Here you’ll find my demands to Simone’s Bar, my official statement of the assault I experienced there and the trauma I endured after, as well as Simone’s historically harmful presence in Pilsen.

As a survivor of violence, it’s never easy to come forward with your truth-but I’m not just seeking justice for myself. I’m doing it for other survivors who have been silenced, the late Rudy Avina who was murdered in Simone’s, and the Pilsen community.

Thank you to those who take the time to read this, who have extended me love and support, and continue to help me spread awareness. I would not have the strength to keep speaking out and seeking justice if it weren’t for my community. Another way you can support me is by writing a review of Simone’s on any platform discussing how harmful they are to the community. #BoycottSimones by @anythang4selenas

TW: sexual assault, gendered violence

Please take the time to read this article out of The Sick Muse by a comrade of mine, Victoria. About a year ago I went through one of the most traumatic experiences of my life. I was assaulted at Simone’s bar in Pilsen for defending myself against a Trump Supporter, only to be demonized, blamed, and silenced. This year has been filled with so much processing and healing, but I’m thankful for @huesos_y_corazon who sat down with me to listen to my story and document the advocacy that women of color have been doing, for CENTURIES, in order to survive. My experience of gendered violence isn’t isolated, just this month a 19 year old student from UIC, Ruth George, was raped and murdered for not responding to a catcall. Several days later a woman was raped in an alley behind El Hefe in River North while intoxicated and the security guards just watched. Toxic masculinity and misogyny is literally killing us, we shouldn’t have to wait until a murder or assault occurs to take the necessary actions in order to create safe environments. #BoycottSimones #SecurityforWho by @anythang4selenas

If anyone isn’t sure why we’re Boycotting Simone’s I reposted this from Chi Resists who also managed to get some footage from our first protest.

🚨 HOOD ALERT!!! SHARE!! 🚨 TW: assault, violence against womxn/femmes/men, mentions of Trump/Racism 🚨 A BOYCOTT is being called in @simones_bar in Pilsen for allowing 5 MALE Security Guards to Assault a woman at the Oye Mujer event last weekend. They have refused to respond, apologize or even fire the security as you can see they are still working. They are harboring violent machista trump supporters and gentrifying our hood. As the survivor protested outside White men taunted WOC with pictures of Trump, Latino men and Womxn berated and laughed at us and the organizer at the event where the queer WOC was assaulted danced and sang on stage. This is disgusting and an example of what ppl will do for a drink and a little coin. We are calling for a BOYCOTT of these violent spaces and the ESTABLISHMENT of a COMMUNITY CENTER!!! #boycottsimones #securityforwho #fucktrump #vivasnosqueremos #pilsen #chicago #chicagonightlife #kombi #peopleskaraoke #simonesbar #solidarityorshame by @anythang4selenas

My great grandma, Mamá Carmen, has been on my mind since my Mami’s birthday dinner last night. In between bites, my Tias, Mom, and Grandma spoke life into her through cuentos, giving her a seat at the table. They talked about how she loved to gamble, and would cheat without shame too! She would stand her ground when someone accused her, and be upset at them for even suggesting it. LOL I was also reminded that she was born and grew up in the state of Puebla before she moved to Ciudad de México. So I spent some of my morning researching its history, and feeling very connected to her as I imagined her living there as a little girl. Later in the day, as I looked out my backyard window, a female cardinal appeared and the image of Mamá Carmen very clearly came to mind. She stayed with me awhile as we chirped back and forth. I usually only see a female cardinal with a male, rarely a female alone. That was my confirmation that my Mamá Carmen must have felt my love out in the spirit realm and made her way to me to visit and give some back. I love you Mamá, I will keep you alive in my heart and mind.🙏🏼🕊️🌹🤍 by @anythang4selenas

31 revolutions around the sun🥹💐💌🌞♍️🥳 I’m feeling very grateful for all the versions of me that brought me to this moment and in love with my journey, spirit, loved ones, and blessings both received and incoming. Thank you for all the birthday love and warmth, I love y’all🥰🙏🏼✨ by @anythang4selenas

SURPRISE 🤪❤️‍🔥 it’s my love’s (halfway to) 30th birthday party🥳♒️ and what a better way to celebrate than to pay homage to the masterpiece that is Samuel’s fav show, the Sopranos 😎

Samuel is a February baby, if you’re from the Midwest than you know how harsh the winter month can be. Samuel and I talked about half birthdays before and he mentioned how he’d enjoy the idea of a half birthday one year and have loved ones gather in the warmer weather. Since that day I’ve been scheming on making his entrance into 30 a memorable one! 🤪😏🥰

Thank you to all the friends and family who came together to celebrate Samuel. Everyone who played a part in making this surprise possible and contributed delicious food, joyous presence, and precious moments.

Happy halfway to 30 amor, may this next decade be filled with an abundance of blessings, protection, joy, and adventures for you. I’m so grateful I get to grow alongside you, I love you so much😘

9 years ago, through grassroot organizing efforts, I and many others in the Pilsen and neighboring Southside communities came together to reclaim space and spread awareness against the harmful effects of gentrification.

Almost 10 years later, and gentrification in Pilsen has drastically accelerated along with other Southside neighborhoods. More resources are being poured into nightlife, coffee shops, & capitalist efforts rather than art, activism, community building, and affordable housing-things that would actually help sustain the legacy of Pilsen.

It breaks my heart to see and hear long time residents struggling to fit into a community that they helped create. But even still, they are present in Pilsen, taking up space as they should, and resisting being pushed out.

This is why it’s so important to support locally owned ethical businesses and uplift community efforts rooted in collaboration and solidarity. I’m very grateful I had the opportunity to see what community in action looks like, it’s a lifelong reminder that “we protect each other”. by @anythang4selenas

Moments from Seattle🌀🌱🦞 I was being a trooper cause I of course got hella sick the day before leaving. But I decided it was just my body purging all that didn’t serve me as I was closing my 2nd decade and that I was going to make the best of 4 days in the PNW, which I did 😌🌲💌 by @anythang4selenas

To more unapologetic joy in 2026✨🌱🙏🏼 by @anythang4selenas

Spent my Sunday in Pilsen with family celebrating my Scorpio queen as she journeys on her 79th trip around the sun! She has built a legacy for our family here rooted in abundance, altruism, y amor that’s deeply felt. I don’t know anyone who shines brighter, and it’s an honor to be her granddaughter. 🥹🌞🦂❤️‍🔥🥰 by @anythang4selenas
