This year, AD Block Durga Puja celebrates “Galai Gora Gouri”, bringing the beauty of Bengal's traditional Gaala (lac) dolls into the spotlight.

Once a familiar part of Bengal's folk art heritage, Gaala doll-making is now an endangered craft. This presentation pays tribute to the artisans and their efforts to keep this traditional art alive.

Artists Amit-Arindam have created one-foot-tall Gaala dolls of various deities, alongside impressive ten-foot replicas made using fibre, cloth, bamboo and other materials. A striking figure of Ravana welcomes visitors at the entrance.

The traditional red, black and white colour palette of Gaala dolls adds authenticity to the presentation.

Beyond its visual appeal, Galai Gora Gouri is a reminder that preserving our folk art means keeping a part of Bengal's cultural identity alive. ✨
