This week we celebrate Mahler’s birthday, honouring one of the great exponents of song.

To mark the occasion, here’s a standout moment from our 2022 festival with Dorothea Röschmann and Joseph Middleton performing Das irdische Leben from Mahler’s Des Knaben Wunderhorn.

Head over to our Youtube page to view the full video, and more highlights from Leeds Song Festivals over the years.

A beautiful start to the 2026 Festival as Austrian mezzo‑soprano Patricia Nolz appears alongside our Festival Director Joseph Middleton.

This clip features Er, der Herrlichste von allen (“He, the most wonderful of all”) from Robert Schumann’s ever‑popular cycle Frauenliebe und -leben.

Few artists have done more to champion song than Dame Sarah Connolly and Joseph Middleton. Next Friday, they reunite in Leeds for a special recital celebrating Kathleen Evans BEM and her many years of dedication to Leeds Song.

The programme spans some of the greatest music written for voice and piano – from Schubert, Clara and Robert Schumann, and Brahms to Mahler, Britten and Gurney – alongside the premiere of a new commission by David Matthews.

Happy 85th birthday to the great @marthaargerichpiano!

To celebrate the occasion, we are remembering our amazing concert last season at the Barbican Hall where she performed Beethoven’s joyous Piano Concerto No. 2☀️

Currently in corsets and Baroque ornamentation by day for Handel’s “Giulio Cesare” @teatrodelmaggio ….while dreaming of slipping back into the smoky, sharp-edged world of Kurt Weill 🎭✨

One of my fave roles is Anna in Kurt Weill’s “The Seven Deadly Sins” — which I’ve done in both the original high keys and the low Lotte Lenya keys featured here. I guess I just love yelling Brechtian truths at people?

Fun fact: when I first did the role as a young artist @tanglewoodmusiccenter I also danced the role of Anna II….my first real experience of monodrama! It was a fun challenge to call on the (verrrry rusty) dance background of my youth 💃🏻🤪🤯😳🙃
