White today, pink tomorrow. This is not a filter — it's nature. The Flannel Flower (Actinotus helianthi) actually changes color as it ages. Born snow-white with a soft, flannel-like texture, it blushes pink at maturity. Swipe to see the full transformation. In the wild, these beauties grow along the NSW coast to SE Queensland, blooming all year round. The pink ones in the later slides? Often mistaken for a different species, but it's the same flower just living its full life. Which phase do you love more — the pure white or the dusty pink? 🌸 Japanese Anemone — the flower that arrives when summer begins to fade. 🍃 She blooms when everyone else is saying goodbye. 🍂 Delicate, graceful and almost weightless at first glance, the Japanese Anemone brings a quiet elegance to late summer and autumn gardens. 🌿 Botanical name: Anemone hupehensis / Japanese anemone hybrids 🌱 Family: Ranunculaceae — the Buttercup family 🌸 Flowering: Late summer through autumn 📏 Height: Often around 50–150 cm 🎨 Colours: Soft pink, blush, magenta and pure white 🌼 Flower form: Saucer-shaped blooms surrounding a prominent cluster of yellow stamens. Despite its common name, the story behind this flower is fascinating. Anemone hupehensis is native across parts of Asia, with its natural range extending from Nepal to Taiwan. Many plants called “Japanese anemones” in gardens are cultivars or hybrids related to this species. 🌏🌿 A flower doesn't always need to be loud to be unforgettable. Sometimes, elegance is simply a flower moving quietly in the autumn breeze. 🤍 Do you grow Japanese anemones? Are they on your fall planting list? SAVE this for your autumn garden planning. . . . Nature didn't use a filter here. Meet Indian Paintbrush (Castilleja), the wildflower that looks like someone dipped a brush in red paint and stroked the prairie. Despite its name, it's not from India. It's native to the Americas and is Wyoming's state flower. What looks like petals? Actually bracts. And it has a secret, it is a partial parasite that survives by tapping into the roots of nearby plants. Have you ever seen one in the wild? Save this for your wildflower guide. Indian Paintbrush The Wildflower That Looks Like It's Dipped in Paint Castilleja Common Name: Indian Paintbrush / Painted Cup Scientific Name: Castilleja [200+ species] Family: Broomrape family, Orobanchaceae State Flower of Wyoming: Castilleja linariifolia Those bright red, orange or yellow tips are NOT petals. They are colorful bracts. The real flowers are tiny, greenish and hidden inside. It is a hemiparasite / root-parasite, it steals nutrients from nearby grasses to survive Native to: Western North & South America [despite the name, not from India. The name refers to Native American legend] Habitat: Prairies, meadows, mountain slopes, open woodlands Bloom Season: April to August Height: 6 inches to 3 feet Symbolizes: Happiness, strength, vitality and creativity 1. Cannot be transplanted easily, it needs a host plant. 2. Colors change based on soil and host. 3.
