Long post warning ⚠️
It's been a week since we wrapped up the Midwestern ISA Chapter Tree Climbing Championship. We had a great weekend with weather holding off and the MW-ISA staff dealing with paperwork & logistics. I have so many people to thank: on Thursday @integritytreecare , @arbordude , & @tim.cherokeetreecare got work climb, Aerial Rescue, & Belayed Speed Climb going. When @i_go_up_trees , @stihl__kickin , & Michael showed up we finished those 3 & got Master's going.
Friday we had lots of extra volunteers, even after some of our volunteers filled in for missing competitors. Several of the @arborimagetreecare guys did whatever random tasks I assigned. Jimmy & @joseph_of_the_ozarks got the throwline trees prepped by pruning. So many people just jumped in and helped. @treegorillatreecare gave lots of good feedback on coordinating a comp & helped coordinate gear check.

@treedogg24 ran Ascent and gave us some good feedback on what additonal items we need to keep it smooth. @michaeljaycureton was the master of hype and ran Belayed Speed Climb. @the_modern_arborist had a stellar crew at Aerial Rescue. @david.raines.37 ran a tight ship on work climb. Al Smith & the gang worked throwline.

Saturday ran as smooth as I have ever seen at a comp, though not without some anomalies like @stuart_cody_149 getting his truck stolen, but finding it and showing up a couple hours later to compete anyway. We had 13 first-time competitors & boy, was it fun.

Master's on Sunday, everyone got in the tree eventually, and dang ol' @pooktree_e finally got the win after a decade!

Arborist inspections are often required for outdoor adventure related activities where trees are utilized. The most fun project this week has been the zipline inspection at @ozarkmountain_ziplines in Eureka Springs.

I got a chance to go back to the place where I started my professional career- Franklin Tech and Joplin High School! Joplin FFA held agriculture career expo today. I got to visit with students about arboriculture and climbing.

P.S. I'm not fast at ascending.

Treating an already infested ash tree for Emerald Ash Borer. This tree had never been treated for EAB before. However, the utility company treated it with a Tree Growth Regulator to help it stay out of the electric lines. The TGR definitely kept this tree in good enough shape to allow for EAB treatment.

Today I got to see a bunch of other awesome arborist buddies from Southwest Missouri. I worked directly with the guys from Busy Bees, a crew I'd never met!

@salutingbranches is a national day of service where tree care professionals volunteer their time and skills to care for trees and landscapes at national cemeteries, in honor of our nation's veterans.

Southwest Missouri experienced significant storm damage at the end of July. Many tree care providers are still working on storm damage a month later. Got this sycamore removed and processed before heading to Albuquerque for ITCC.

Back in May, I was called out to look at some trees. I informed the homeowner that this ash had Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) evidence. They wanted the tree removed. Newton County was one of five Missouri counties that hadn't confirmed EAB yet, so I had a goal of capturing at least one adult so we could check it off the list. I popped the tops out & got down on the ground to look. ✅️ I caught a mating pair & one other, then sent them in to be confirmed by MDC. If you have ash trees, then you need a plan. I also made the introductory parody song in honor of @dako_duh the great.

Dying post Oak removal. Lots of hypoxylon canker and some dried out fruiting bodies at the base. Working on my SRS & spikeless removal skills. It was an absolute scorcher yesterday, and I ran out of steam after the first load of logs. Ryan came in clutch this morning to help me load the last 15 rounds of wood.
