I am mine. ✨✨//

Wrecked @ wreck (part 1)
I thought this shoot would be angry and angsty. A little “fuck you,” a little revenge, maybe even a little funny. Instead, somewhere between it all: the drowning the dress, dragging the absolute heaviness of it, setting it on fire, and burying … I found peace.

In 2019, I walked down the aisle believing I was attracted to men & believing I could love someone healthy by loving them hard enough, praying hard enough, and giving enough of myself away. For a long time, I thought I had wasted a marriage, the “once in a lifetime” wedding, and years of my life.

But standing in that dress again, I realized I don’t regret the woman who wore it. It wasn’t a “waste” . She was doing the best she could with what she knew. She was surviving.

Coming out became part of reclaiming myself. Not just discovering who I loved, but discovering that I get to choose who I am, who I love, how I create, how I dance, how I live. Free will is such an incredible thing. It’s as tangible as we let it be in our lives.

So with that free will I wrecked the dress that had more value than my life, once upon a time. With that free will I paid someone to document it in a beautiful way. And with that same free will I love who I want, and marry who I want - it doesn’t haven’t to be a once in a life time thing.

The vows that weren’t mine. The expectations that weren’t mine. The version of love that required me to disappear I left it all in that ocean.

And when everything was stripped away for once I didn’t feel shame or exposure.I didn’t find anger. Or grief even. I truly found me. The same me I didn’t recognize in the old photos I’ve been avoiding.

The confidence and safety I felt on that beach was incredibly freeing.

I thought I was just going to wreck the damn dress, but instead I reclaimed more of the woman underneath it.

Thank you, @heatherglasgowphotos for holding this vision for a year while I healed enough to meet it. And thank you always to @kdubs4444 who is literally my partner in crime at this point. Thank you for being my yes woman and always making healing fun 💙 by @archandrelease

sexy sneakers with @helloashleigh at @idancevancouver 💕 by @archandrelease

this term with @luminesquedance broke me open. I learned to trust my body. I learned to build and trust my strength. I explored and played and committed to impulsivity in the most beautiful and ridiculous of ways. This number with @bronwynnjoy was very special + pushed me in a lot of ways emotionally. I have never felt so vulnerable yet so safe all at once in that blue light (thanks @mishaloves !) and savoured every moment of it.

Thank you @rei.of.sun for really pushing me and helping me catch up when life hit me all over again (multiple times). I appreciate you more than you’ll ever know + so incredibly grateful for our friendship.

now it’s time for another push….
