No sketches. No shortcuts. Just vision, instinct, and a willingness to make it happen. Meet Raul Alejandro, an emerging designer from Ciudad Juárez whose approach to fashion is as intuitive as it is ambitious. Working directly on the mannequin, he transforms fabric into sculptural silhouettes inspired by the elegance of couture—while balancing the demands of a full-time job and building his own creative practice. But Raul’s story is about more than the clothes. It’s about creating opportunities in Juárez, challenging the idea that talent must leave home to be recognized, and imagining a future where border creatives can build something of their own. Read our full profile on Raul Alejandro and discover the vision, process, and ambition behind his work. Andy Castaneda presents their designs at the Border AIDS partnership’s Border Runway event at the El Paso Community Foundation. Andy (they/them) is an El Paso–based fiber artist redefining crochet as wearable art. Through bold, sculptural pieces like Amalgamation, they explore anxiety, slow fashion, and the beauty of making things by hand—using texture, repetition, and unconventional materials to push fiber arts beyond tradition. Their work is a reminder to slow down, create intentionally, and see fashion as both art and labor.
