Welcome to Aren’t You Glad 🥰

So my new HRT has kicked in (iykyk) and with it has come a kick up the backside to finally start sharing all the crochet patterns I’ve been designing over the last few years! I am forever honest on here, and therefore I have to admit that I have been on the brink of doing this for years, but a big case of imposters syndrome has always stopped me. But stuff that, I’m HERE! Woooo!

So why call it Aren’t You Glad? Scroll along to the last slide and you’ll see my beloved Grandma; Gladys. She HATED her name, but I’ve decided to reclaim it & make it something joyful & fun. She will be forever missed; she was a wonderfully warm & caring lady with a huge heart. She was an immensely talented crafter & musician, and I feel her influence & gentle guidance with every stitch I make.

Aren’t You Glad is all about joyful crochet, colourful scrapbusting, cosy creativity, and making beautiful things from what we already have. Tiny moments of comfort stitched together one row at a time 🧵

Here you’ll find:
✨ crochet projects
✨ free patterns
✨ yarn chaos
✨ wearable joy
✨ imperfect creativity
✨ colourful scraps becoming something wonderful

This isn’t about perfection. It’s about comfort, creativity, and finding little pockets of happiness even on difficult days.

I’m so glad you’re here 💛 by @arent.you.glad

We’re on the final countdown now, doors open this Saturday!

I’ve worked so hard on this, and I’m so excited to show you.

I’d love it if you could help me share the word. There’s a free welcome pack for everyone on the site, and it doesn’t cost a penny to tag friends who you think will enjoy the village ☺️

In fact, it’ll never cost anything to enjoy Glad Green. Yes there’s the gift shop and businesses there, but there will always be plenty of freebies, and everyone is always welcome.

I’d really appreciate your support, thank you so much xx by @arent.you.glad

@markevans3090 and I had a fun day yesterday celebrating our baby girl’s first birthday ❤️. We had planned to meet up with her boyfriends Bailey & Teddie, plus her bestie @roxxielawesxo but there’s no way any of the pups could go out in 35 degrees, way too hot! So she had a chilled out day at home with lots of new toys, some treats, and a homemade dog-friendly birthday cake 🐾 by @arent.you.glad

I’ve picked my colours for July!

I’ve gone for lovely and bright yarns with a mix of weights from DK to chunky.

What would you make with my colours? Let me know in the comments!

Make sure you come back Friday for your free pattern of the week 🙌

Let’s face it, even the most ardent crafter wants nothing more than to be in a dark room with bags of frozen peas under their b00bs / man titties, straddling a freezer with a fan blasting in their… face.

But if the need to create is still grabbing you despite the heatwave, then get your sweaty paws on these cute beads. Small projects are on most of our hooks at the moment, as the last thing any of us need is our precious yarn soaking up dubious bodily fluids 🤣. These crochet beads are the ultimate small project. They take a few minutes to create, and are lightweight to wear, ideal for this time of year, and absolutely mandatory for festivals!

Swipe for the free pattern 🤍 Note on slide 4, I missed the following on round 5 : rep from * around.

Enjoy!

Are you a podcast fan? I have a few favourites that I never miss (@dannyrobinswithoneb I’m looking at you 👀), but I’m always on the hunt for more; what do you recommend? I have to admit I’m a sucker for an investigative documentary, history pods, true crime, & real-life stories. My playlist includes Strange But True Crime, Outlook, Lady Killers, & Limelight.

I listened to Real Survival Stories on @bbcsounds while I made the #gladbag - one bloke had to be rescued from a helicopter that crashed inside a live volcano, another had a fist fight with a bear, and a pup called Lex saved her owner from death when she fell in a canyon. I think we can agree these people need to stop going outdoors and maybe crochet a bit more… far safer! Haha.

So as you’ve hopefully seen by now, I’m choosing 5 balls of yarn every month and making whatever I can out of them, with the aim of using them up while making beautiful things. I’m then sharing the patterns for free across social media, hurrah!

The #GladBag took just under 100g of DK yarn (though you could use any weight, it would be great in chunky or Aran), and is a nice speedy make. Swipe along for the pattern, and let me know if you’d like a video tutorial too!

Oh & ps… sod ‘trending audio’, I just want to share my favourite songs, so a scroll through my feed should be like a flick through my @spotify playlist 🫶

What are your never-miss podcasts to crochet to? by @arent.you.glad

Crazy what a pile of scraps can make, isn’t it!

All in all I made:

⭐️ started 16 motifs for @sewing_the_seeds_of_love #hexirainbowblanket

⭐️ Finished two 5-round granny squares and started two others

⭐️ Finished 85 rows of my C2C chevron blanket

Not too shabby, hey!

I’m a serial blanket-starter but don’t tend to finish many (why must they take so long?!), so I figured adding tiny balls of colour on every now and then would be a fun way to build them up slowly. Hopefully I’ll be less likely to get bored that way too…

I’m not a huge fan of scrappy stuff using a magic knot ball - I like the knots, I just don’t like the look of colours that start here there and everywhere 🫣 so adding whole rounds to things is more fun for me.

I used up about 25 of the balls I picked out over the weekend, so I’m pretty happy with that!

What do you make with your teeny tiny scraps?

Farewell our beautiful baby boy 😢

He lived to an impressive 8 years old, but sadly had a cruel end.

We will miss you, little one xxx by @arent.you.glad

I can’t believe we’ve had Lexi for a week already! Her little personality is starting to show now & she’s just hilarious. We’ve been teaching her some basic commands, and I’m definitely one of those annoying mums who claim their child is just ‘so clever’ 😆 She’s not daft though, she knows she gets treats while training, so every now and then she’ll perform all her new skills in sequence without prompting, then run up expecting a treat 🤣 clever girl!

I’m wondering whether to set up a dedicated account for Lexi, I don’t want to bore anyone who’s just here for the crochet. Let me know on the poll xx

Shall I set up a dedicated insta account for Lexi? by @arent.you.glad

Thank you very much to Lynne & @alistairkermath for Lexi’s bone, safe to say it’s definitely her new favourite 🐾

Sorry not sorry for all the puppy spam to come 🤭

Introducing our poochon, Lexi 🥰 I can’t even tell you how much we love her already! Many of you will know that my husband and I can’t have children, but we have been so desperate for something to love. Lexi has been with us just over 24 hours and she’s already melted our hearts and made us feel like parents; a feeling we never thought we’d get to experience. It sounds so cliche but we’re so fulfilled already, it’s such an incredible feeling 🥰🐶🐾

On a side note; we are both strongly supportive of adopting over buying puppies, however sadly our situation at the moment means an adoption is not right for us right now. I’m sure we will rescue in the future. In the meantime we ensured we bought Lexi from a responsible, registered breeder with decades of experience. We met both Mum and Dad, and did all our due diligence ☺️

@markevans3090 & I are so in love with our girl, we’re going to have so much fun together!

Thank you all for the love on yesterday’s post, really appreciate all the lovely comments 🥰 I find it hard to admit when we’re having a crappy time and things are hard, as I’ve been brought up to remember there’s always someone worse off than us. I’m very quick to slap a smile on and joke my way through all the feels, but honestly? It’s tough right now. For anyone wondering what the heck I’m on about; the crux of the issue is that my lovely Dad has been bed-bound for the last year with Parkinson’s Disease. He’s had it for over 20 years, but we’re at the stage now where it’s taken over. It’s a daily fight to get him the care he needs, and it’s exhausting.

We’re particularly grateful to our lovely neighbour & friend @natashahorne99 who’s been with us every step of the way. Her expertise and kindness has been invaluable, I don’t know what we’d do without her!

Always, that’s enough slushy stuff. Second blanket I took to lovely @sams.messy.desk pictured above. Cute, innit. Love the colours on this one. I actually deliberately used the same yarns for all three baby blankets for Sam & Bill’s little ones, though Phoebe’s has some gorgeous variegated in that I’ve now run out of (pictured down the grid somewhere). Pattern is just a simple star granny, Google and you’ll find loads.

Righto, let’s see if I can keep this streak up, shall we?! I’m on a major stash-busting mission at the moment, we’re talking card, yarn, kits, all sorts. Plan is to actually use them 😆 I’ll tell you more about it tomorrow.

Have a lovely day! xxx
