Dear Lil Steve,

Big Bro, it feels like yesterday when you used to take me to the sneaker store on Erie Ave every time you came up. You’d grab you a pair of Filas, Reeboks, K Swiss, Adidas, Pumas, Nikes, Sauconys, New Balance, whatever you liked. And you’d always try to get me a pair too. Sometimes you couldn’t, but it never mattered.

You taught me how to keep my kicks clean. And once I could fit your sneakers, it was over. Every time you went somewhere, I’d throw a pair of your kicks on and walk the neighborhood like I was you.

Damn, I just miss you. I wish I could tell you I’m carrying our last name to the moon.

I’ll never forget sitting in that cell with you at SCI Dallas. You’d look at what I was writing in my Book of Life, then look at me and say, “It’s gonna happen, bro.”

Thank you for seeing something in me and always speaking life into me.

No matter where I go or what I accomplish in this life, I’ll always be Lil Steve little brother Wally. If you know, you know.

There are many ways to hear no. But no matter how it’s said or who says it, it only has one true meaning…

Next opportunity.
