As the monsoon season approaches, many pop-up markets begin to wind down, and for many small businesses, artists, and makers, that means a significant slowdown in opportunities and income.

I thought this would be a good time to re-introduce myself to those who may be new here. 👋😀😁

I'm Vaibhav aka Mr. Bu — an artist, naturalist, and educator passionate about creating work inspired by Goa's wildlife, marine life, tradition, culture, heritage, and stories. Alongside creating products and artwork, I also conduct nature walks, art related workshops, and environmental education activities.

If you'd like to support my work (or any small business you love), remember that support doesn't always have to be a purchase. Sharing posts, recommending a friend, leaving a comment, or simply spreading the word can make a huge difference. ✨

Thank you to everyone who has supported me so far.

Day 1 at the Blackbird Art Festival ❤️🎨

My third exhibition, and another beautiful reminder of why I love doing what I do. :)

From meeting old friends and familiar faces to connecting with art professionals, retired artists, fellow exhibitors, and people who simply love art...the day was filled with conversations, stories, appreciation, and so much warmth. Getting to share my work, hear people talk about it, and feel it being recognized, acknowledged and appreciated is a feeling that never gets old. 🥹

I also had a little surprise for everyone who stopped by — a miniature sketchbook filled with some iconic landmarks from Panjim and Goa. And the response? Absolutely lovely! The magnifying glass turned out to be the perfect little addition, bringing out smiles, curiosity, and plenty of “Wait, this is so tiny?!” moments. 🔍📖😂😭

The idea was to make the experience more interactive, to get people looking closer, exploring, and engaging with the work rather than just having me yap about it all day. 😂 And honestly, watching people lean in, discover the little details, and strike up conversations made it all worth it.

Perhaps my favourite part was meeting fellow artists who were exhibiting their work, hearing their stories, learning about their practices, and discovering the many different ways people see and interpret the world through art.❤

A day full of art, conversations, familiar faces, new connections, and little moments that made me smile. Here's to more of these! ✨

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, appreciated the work, shared a conversation, or simply took a moment to look a little closer. You made Day 1 special. ❤️

Weeks of preparation went into making this exhibition happen. From sketching, revisiting old artworks and creating new ones, to the never-ending process of selecting which pieces deserved a spot on the wall. Then came the prints, experimenting with sizes, trial and error with colours, getting things framed on time, second guessing almost every decision along the way. There were moments of excitement, nervousness, confusion, last minute changes and a fair share of stress. So much time went into getting every detail right, often wondering if it would all come together the way I had imagined. Looking back, the exhibition wasn't just about the putting up the artworks but also these little things that went into bringing the whole thing to life. ✨

Seeing my work being appreciated, connecting with people through it and most importantly, knowing that some of my creations are now going to be a part of someone else's home has given me a newfound confidence. Deeply grateful. Mog Asun ❤

Junta House, Panjim

Inaugurated on Independence Day in 1966, the six-storey building stood as Goa's tallest building at the time of its completion and marked the progress and optimism following the end of the Portuguese rule.

Initially built as a housing complex, the Junta house later served as a core administrative centre for major state public offices, including the Directorate of Transport and the Sub-Registrar.

The architecture features expansive balconies and a unique rooftop astronomical observatory set up by historian Percival Noronha back in 1982.

What I love about the building is the big beautiful mural of Aunt Rosy, who embodies the vibrancy and warmth of everyday life in Goa. This year the landmark celebrated its 60th anniversary. Only time will tell how long it will still be there, since the building has been declared unsafe and the demolition of the same was planned to happen long ago to make way for a rumored 14 storey building 🤷🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

Makharutsav ✨

While some parts of Goa celebrate Navratri with Bengali-style Durga Puja pandals, Makharutsav is a whole different experience. It's a beautiful blend of devotion, music, art, tradition and community, a glimpse into Goa's distinct cultural identity. My favorite part has to be when devotees start swaying the makhar slowly, which is attached to the top of the roof with a hook, while the person or the priest is seen performing the ritual. As a kid I always loved seeing the Deco of the makhar. Every day, we would see it decorated with different flowers and garlands. Post the ritual, we would go out where village youth would come and groove to the traditional dandiya dance. Ps: I have never played dandiya. 🙈

Since today is the last day, here are few of the best places you can experience this: Mardol, Ponda, Shiroda, Marcel, Madkai. This artwork is of Shri Navdurga Temple, Borim-Ponda

Every place has its own atmosphere, but the magic lies in experiencing this living tradition in person. ❤️

Made this little artwork on Procreate using the oil brushes, and I absolutely love how it turned out!

Buildings of Panaji (3/9) 🎨

A few months ago, I was commissioned to illustrate the facades of some of Panjim's most iconic heritage buildings — and I couldn't have been more excited.

Panjim has always been one of my favourite places to sketch. Every street corner has a story, every building has a personality, and every facade carries traces of Goa's Portuguese past.

This artwork brings together three landmarks that have stood the test of time: Singbal's Book House, Clube Nacional, and Pedro Fernandes music store. Each building showcases its own unique architectural details, from ornate windows and balconies to decorative mouldings that reflect a rich cultural history.

But I didn't want to paint just the buildings.
wanted to capture the life around them — children heading into the bookstore, people passing by Clube Nacional, the newspaper seller taking a quiet break, and even a vintage car parked along the street. The little everyday moments that make these places feel alive. ❤

Looking at these three pieces together reminds me why I love documenting Goa's heritage through art.

And honestly... I think these would make some beautiful postcards or bookmarks. What do you think?

Look Ma, I finally put up my works for an exhibition! 🥹✨

Independence Day this year was a little surreal. My first-ever proper exhibition, and I got to be a part of it alongside 19 incredibly talented artists from Urban Sketchers Goa.

20 artists. 65 works. 💫

And what makes this even more special is the venue — the iconic and historic Aguad Port & Jail Complex, with its beautiful view. To see my work framed, displayed and hanging on the walls of a place like this was something I had secretly dreamed about for years. 🥺

I’ve always imagined what it would feel like to see one of my paintings on an exhibition wall, and even more so, to have my family and the people I love walk and see something I created hanging there.

From sketching these moments on the streets to seeing them become part of an exhibition, this feels like a small but very special milestone in my journey as an artist.

Missed my mom a lot. I wish she could have been here to see this. I can only hope that wherever she is, she’s looking down and feeling proud of me. ❤️

Grateful. Excited. Overwhelmed. And honestly, still trying to take it all in. Do visit and check out our work. Exhibition open till 20th September 😁

Here’s to the first of many. ✨🎨
