“Jal Mein Jhalak”

So, I learned about the Paisley Design or the Kachi Ambi Pattern in my History of Arts class at uni and i knew I had to immediately include it in my drawing. Flash forward a few months, and I finally did; showing only half the Anarkali frock, covered in that swirling pattern, layers of Organza dupattas and Banarsi brocade for the hem. Her ankles are wrapped in ghungroos, and her feet are half-dipped in shimmering water. I imagined and portrayed the water as a quiet, magical space where everything blends together in a hazy way.
While I was working on the piece, “Mohe Panghat Pe” sung by the legendary Lata Mangeshkar was on repeat. The title “Mohe Panghat Pe” means “at the water’s steps”, ‘mohe’ means ‘to me’ and ‘panghat’ means ‘the steps by the water.” The energy of the song, its title, and lyrics felt like a perfect match for the mood, which convinced me to make it the background music.
This piece is all about that moment where tradition, sound, and movement come together. ..🙏🏼❤️‍🔥🪔

⭐️ Inspired from a reference found on Pinterest, totally reimagined in my own style. I searched for the original artist regarding the reference but unfortunately couldn’t find them.
